Very mediocre. Too bad as Tom is a sympathetic guy.

So just wait for the general availability outside of theaters.

I did like the flying galleons bit in the trailer, but I'm not surprised by the reviews.

I've just got back from seeing it here in the UK.

It's not even mediocre it's pure trash. The screenplay is from the writers of Transformers: The Last Knight and Men In Black: International and Uncharted is just as badly written if not even more so than either of those two films.

There's barely any funny lines for the characters, there's such little sense of fun, adventure and genuine peril that this makes National Treasure look like Raiders of the Lost Ark by comparison.

Mark Wahlberg doesn't even try to play Sully and he's written as a selfish, greedy and unlikable asshole who I could never believe Nate would see this guy as a mentor, friend and father figure. Tom Holland tries with what he has to work with but there's only so much he can do with such a shoddy screenplay.

You get two big action set pieces, the first is the plane sequence and the second is the pirate ships being carried by helicopters, both are in the third act of the film. The rest of the movie you get a brief foot chase, some choppily edited fight scenes and Tom and Mark stood around waffling off bland dialogue and weak banter to each other. I was very bored but then again I shouldn't have been surprised as Ruben Fleischer hasn't directed a good film since the first Zombieland and the writers haven't contributed to anything good since they co-wrote the screenplay for Iron Man. Oh and there's no shootout either which is ridiculous seeing as this is based off of a third-person shooter video game series. Even the fan film had a shootout sequence!

This should have been a good start to a fun action adventure film franchise but instead it's just another video game adaptation dud.

reply

Again, not surprised. Fleischer being hired as director was a suspect move by Sony. But they probably wanted to make this as cheaply as possible. I wish Joe Carnahan got a chance to direct this with an older cast.

reply

An Uncharted film from Joe Carnahan would have been so much better.

It’s annoying that this film was announced in 2009 and after all this time this is the screenplay and director they went with.

But then like you said it’s not surprising, this is Sony we’re on about, they’re just hoping fans of the video games and people looking for an action adventure movie will go and see this despite the reviews. Plus releasing it now when there is no competition at the box office until The Batman next month.

reply

Ok, thanks. Won't even bother with a dl.

reply

No problem. I saw it for free thanks to a friend who works at my local cinema but I’d have been annoyed if I’d wasted money to see this.

reply

Disappointing to hear. Guess I'll skip it, until I can stream it maybe.

reply

No surprise there, yet another movie based on a video game that fails to deliver. It is like a curse at this point.

reply

It really is cursed at this point haha, but I feel like they didn’t even try here.

The writers tell a really boring and unnecessary origin story of Nathan Drake and Sully first meeting and going on their first treasure hunt, yet they borrow heavily from the final Nathan Drake game Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

Also they give the actors no funny lines to work with at all, there’s no fun twist on history like you’d find in National Treasure. It was all so bland and boring.

Indeed, I think that as far as movies of these kind goes the first two Mummy movies were the best. Good blend of action and comedy.
