MAJOR plot hole

There are so many cameras in airports. Why couldn't the cops just check the cameras to see which flight they boarded!

reply

Well they probably ended up doing that anyway, but by that time the family had gone. Remember the misinformation that led the police to think they were heading for Haiti.

Similarly their "wanted photos" did come through passport control, but only after they'd been processed.

I don't think it's a plot hole.

reply

you answered your own question: because there are so many cameras in airports. they only got a few minutes to catch them.

The one thing that just made me facepalm the most was the whole 35 mins thing. Ok so he swerves off the road to the zoo because he's worried about the roads being shut down and then goes back? So he just manages to find a route in and out that isn't blocked?!? Just made no sense to me at all.

reply

he didn't find a route out that wasn't blocked, he offered a couple who were stuck at the train station a lift because he knew the roadblocks were checking for a man, woman and child not a man, woman, child and elderly couple

Never mind that, what about the fact that he looked at his watch when it said 30 mins and the sat nav said 11 mins to destination. Then the next scene he is 1000 feet away and his watch says 34 mins......

reply

A nav calculates with normal driving speed and not reckless driving beyond speed limits.

No it doesn't it calculates your eta from the speed you are doing. I know, I own one.

The chief investigator had already been yelled at from his superiors for being too thorough in his search, which caused massive traffic jams. Imagine how bad it would be if they were to hold up the lines in all nearby airports. With finite resources, such a manhunt just wouldn't be worth the effort beyond what the cops did put into it. It's not like they were terrorists, after all.

reply

well he some how knew of who they where looking for so he offered that old couple a ride, thus upon reaching the road block they wouldn't stop them since there was more people in the car.

Now a plot hole if anything would be why didn't the road blocks have a picture of them ? seriously..police 101 surely ? have pics ?

reply

You can send a photo to a smartphone in 2 seconds.

iPhone 4 had been released by the time this film was set and you can't tell me that law enforcement were not using that kind of technology to carry out their duties.

It would seem to me the film-makers should have elected to set this film in the 70s or something and make the whole thing a lot more plausible.

reply

Are you thinking that or do you know how fast and successfull pictures are sent in such situations to different devices?

Get cops an iphone for work in the US?

And forget the road lock, it already took long enough to send the pics to the airports. Which they arrived at much later.

They didnt even know which airport.
All airports in a 300 miles radius needed to be checked. One airport alone has already a lot of cameras.
All the couple needed was time... the time that took the police to organize everything, narrow things and track down.
John even led them on a wrong trail to buy more time.

Im sure sooner or later theyd figure out how exactly their escape worked but the family was not in their direct grasp then anymore.

tennis ball and bump keys are a joke, as a locksmith myself these method are a joke..

He clearly found out bump keys are a joke. No revelation there.

reply

You're assuming they're going to think they missed them. But they've sent the images and would assume the security personnel would do their job and keep watch for them. Not seeing them = they didn't come thru airport.

You really think they'd take the time to review every single moment recorded of every single camera? Think about how much time that would take, with no guarantee they even went that way

reply

they didn't know which airport. hard to check video from all of them on short notice. maybe with an NSA supercomputer, but they won't let Pittsburgh PD use that.
