Did anyone else think John Cleese was wrong for the narration?

Don't get me wrong. I think Cleese is a very gifted comedian and didn't do a bad job here. But narrating Winnie the Pooh? I just don't see it. In fact in that scene where he's telling Pooh to look for something, I can't help but feel there was a part of him that so wanted to go all Basil Fawlty and say "It's right in front of you you cloth-eared fluff!"

"Frying pans! Who knew right?"

I didn't even recognize his voice. It's gotten very gravely over the years.

I would have loved to hear Gary Oldman do the narration.

I was very pleased with Cleese's narration. But I'll admit, Oldman would have been an interesting pick.

I did not know who was doing the narration ... at first I almost thought they had dug up tracks of Sebastian Cabbot !

I think the goal (or one of them) was to try and get voice actors that sounded as close to the originals as possible... thus making the movie more acceptable to those of us who grew up with the original shorts. Personally, I think they did pretty well.
