So Disappointing.

I loved the 2007 Grindhouse trailer. Looked like a gritty throwback to the early '80s slashers that tried to rip off "Halloween". But this movie really missed the mark on that feeling.

- This felt like a bad remake of the movie that the Thanksgiving Grindhouse trailer should've been. Like Prom Night or The House on Sorority Row.

- Except for the guy who gives them the gun, the characters have no personality whatsoever. From a storytelling point of view, there's just nothing for the audience to grab on to. You could care less if the killer gets them.

Just saw it and I agree that it was very disappointing. It wasn't scary and it was very generic. It reminded me very much of Scary Movie, i.e. a group of HS kids with a murderer in a mask after them. At least Scary Movie was really funny, this was not.

Thanksgiving was shockingly generic . I didn’t care about any of the characters and the whodunit aspect was lame. I was hoping it would be a cool modern slasher that was serious and gritty and with a cool mystery behind it. Nope.

There were several times when I was watching this movie and wincing as there were scenes that were pretty bad .. not gory bad but cringe bad

Is it even possible to make modern slashers and make them
Interesting? Doesn’t seem so

I agree, doesn't seem so.

They are coming out with 3 more the Strangers movies .. ugh

I really liked The Strangers. I can see one sequel but three, I don't think so.

This is what I’ve been saying for years about ALL slasher movies and horror movies.

Annoying unlikeable and unrelatable characters is what ruins these movies and destroys any semblance of horror. If you couldn’t care less for the characters then the horror is gone because you find yourself wanting them to meet their end and once that happens the movie is no longer a horror but a waste of the viewers time.

Halloween 1978 did this well with good likable characters.

I agree completely! When I saw the trailer it looked good and thought it would be a nice throwback to 80s slashers . Roth is very hit or miss but I thought he could give us a decent slasher.. within 20 minutes I was like eww as the tone was more cheesy and corny and I wanted something more serious and gritty .. I kept watching and the ‘whodunit’ aspect was not that interesting and there were many sequences when the acting and overall vibe just felt off. I wasn’t remotely disturbed or engaged when watching it. Towards the end I wanted the credits to roll already as I was so disappointed

Here I was thinking this movie could usher back the slasher genre but nope. It’s a weed flu when a horror trailer gets my hopes up and then it ends up being completely underwhelming

I ENJOYED IT...WAS NOT AMAZING...BUT ENTERTAINING ENOUGH.

Yeah. A run-of-the-mill horror comedy with nothing that sets it apart from all the other ones that get berated by both critics and IMDB voters.
But I guess the Black Friday riot counts as social commentary and that's always going to win the pretentious movie critics over.

I was hoping it would be set in the 70s.
