Season 3...dare I say, skippable?

Nothing truly progressive. A few backstories to fill in the blanks but nothing no one was dying to discover. At its worst, extremely boring (Ice Chips) and/or filled with forced humor from the Flaks. If I were to ever give the series a complete rewatch in the future, I wouldn't feel any regret in skipping this season.

Dude it totally is skippable, feels like they had zero ideas for season 3, episode 1 was legit an artsy fartsy recap of everything from the previous seasons, episode 2 was one long conversation in the kitchen, then they made an entire episode showing us how Tina got her job at The Beef which did we really need to see that? as if we couldn't figure out Tina took a shitty job making sandwiches cause she needed a job? May as well give us an entire episode showing us how Marcus got his job there as well.

Honestly theres just no story in season 3, they clearly struggled to fill out this season and every episode shows it. And i think they think the Faks are way more funny than they actually are, i just find their scenes annoying but you can tell the writers think they're hilarious and fan favorites or something. And John Cena randomly showing up as a Fak was ridiculous, and felt like ok now we're just doing random cameos for the fuck of it, not for amazing acting or for the story.

Agree 100%. Would've much rather seen the continued struggle in "running" an aspiring Michelin Star restaurant a little more in-depth.

reply

Yeah the show is popular for its high intensity chaos in the kitchen and showing the inner struggles of it, yet we spend 90% of this season out of the kitchen and doing character study episodes and people talking about their feelings.

And yeah they made a big deal about wanting to get a star and we see no story progression on that or emphasis on it, every episode feels like some filler isolated episode that could be removed from the season and nothing would be lost to the story.

and too much toxic yelling/arguing. They should have been past that.

reply

Same here..I am fascinated by the behind the scenes restaurant life, and although I feel the chaos was a bit much in all 3 seasons, it still depicted what really goes on.. Problem in season 3 was the Faks constant comedic stints, the non conclusion of Claire and Carmine, and the non results of the reviews on the restaurant.

reply

Yeah, the Faks = so formulaic.

I got bored in s3 and constantly resented how they were artificially drawing out the tension (Claire, the reviewer’s review). It was so forced and I stopped caring about the outcome.

reply

The idiotic Faks are ruining the show for me. I disliked them before, now I outright hate them.

reply

I couldnt take those guys..I kept saying to myself oh my god not another shtick routine yet again. So much time wasted on needless banter and yelling throughout the season.

reply

We'll see, but I think people like you are missing the overall arc of this show and how each season seems to have a theme.

To me, Season 3 was about the transition of the original sandwich shop into a five-star restaurant and all that comes along with that. It is also a chronicle of the growth and advancement of the characters.

I'm also confused why people seem to just watch the same stuff over and over again while missing the changing aspects of shows like this.

Not enjoying something doesn't mean not understanding it. The first season was brilliant, and I rank it among the best TV shows of all time. The second season was unnecessary, as everything that needed to have been said and done was already present in season 1. However, the success of the first season dictated that a sequel must be made, and so an inferior second season was aired. It was still quite good in parts, and not bad TV by any stretch, but it wasn't even close to as good as the first one, and audiences ate it up, so of course a third season was ordered. Season 3 wasn't very good, and it feels like the show is running on fumes. Do I understand the arcs, and what's happening onscreen? Of course. I still don't care for season 3.

reply

I strongly disagree. I think Season 3 was the best season so far because it really delved into the characters and had more adult heart. Season One and Two were like Animal House regurgitations of the Shameless (American version) series on Showtime.

And I stand by my own interpretation - like the show Shrinking, the seasons of this show have specific themes and many are missing the theme of the third season - which is about growth and a butterfly emerging from a cocoon.
