Are there such people in the world? yes, there certainly is. look at all the presidential assasinations for example. Do we know one? if we knew and lived (unlikely) we wouldnt go around telling it on IMDB.

What are you talking about?
No American President has been killed by a professional assassin, and if you say Kennedy you win the boobie prize.

Because america is the only country with presidents.

Ahhh.. But would a "Professional Assassin" want to make it look like a professional hit or would there be a huge incentive to make it look like an accident or amateur murder.??? If it's a high-profile target, I'm guessing that, in the real world, it wouldn't always go down as it does on TV but probably more like a Heart-attack, Stroke, Plane crash, Car accident, etc.. And nobody's the wiser...

That touches on one of my biggest issues with conspiracy theorists who talk about all of the "people connected to the incident who have died mysteriously." Are there really enough people out there with the skill set to stealthily kill a series of people with no additional witnesses and bafflingly clean crime scenes? And such a lack of scruples that they'd kill innocent fellow Americans?

It's hard to say. But I agree that the wider the alleged conspiracy, the less likely it is to have happened.

And such a lack of scruples that they'd kill innocent fellow Americans?

If they thought they were doing it to protect national security? Absolutely. They don't really "lack scruples" per se; it's more they're possessed by patriotic zealotry which, much like ideological or religious fervor, one can really rationalize anything.

COnsidering the amount of serial killers that were never caught or even known to be a serial killer till decades later when they confessed themselves (and add the amount that havent confessed) there are A LOT of people who are capable of this.
Thing is, i am too, i just dont have the right motivation. It is not that hard considering real life police is not what it shows on CSI. In real life most homeless murders dont evne get investigated because "hey hes homeless noone cares".

most people have no scruples when it comes to self-gain. and id argue about anyone being innocent.

Why yes! Just the other week at the grocery store, a bald man with a bar code on his neck was in line ahead of me waiting to buy a box of Count Chocula. I should have seen it coming when the checkout girl unsuccessfully tried to scan his head and then paged the produce department for a price check on it.

She's got two bullets in her head now, I'm in witness protection, and the gentleman never got his cereal. Bummer for everyone.

The awesomest response in the universe. I never thought I'd ever write the following sentence in a discussion of "The American", but..... > Count Chocula, indeed.

Agree. However, one of the awesome-est.

reply

No I have not, but I am sure there are some, maybe many idk. What makes me laugh though is when I hear people getting busted for hiring a hitman (under cover cop) to kill someone. I mean come on people where would you find a real hitman?

reply

I once knew a guy who allegedly worked for gansters as a hit-man. Likewise, I've met a couple of Special Forces guys. I don't think it's hard to guess that assassins like Clooney's man exist somewhere.

reply

Hey, it's not a dumb question. There are enough movies about these people that sooner or later you end up wondering if they really exist.

I would guess that the CIA, KGB, Mafia and similar groups have their own killers. A few years back in London the Russians killed a renegade ex-KGB guy with a dose of Polonium. More recently an MI6 (or is it MI5?) analyst was found dead in his London flat, and the police described it as a very "clean", professional killing.

But are there free-lancers such as this guy in the real world? Dunno. They come up in a lot of movies. Off the top of my head: The Day of the Jackal, Gross Pointe Blank, The Matador, and of course, good ol' 007.

I believe Jackal was based on some real life guy.

I have a strong feeling that Mark Madoff (Bernie Madoff's son) was killed and it was not a suicide. You don't screw that many powerful rich people out of that much money, and expect not some kind of retaliation.

reply

there's really no point in freelancers. you can get the same job done with ex military assassins who usually work for a government agency or paramilitary organization. this is pertaining to real assassination, not street thug *beep* like tupac.

reply

If you ever met an assassin, you don´t live any more and cann´t tell us about the meeting here on IMDb!

By the way, yes, I'm a real assassin myself and will visit you soon! I promise!

reply

There are assassins in the real world, though it's usually not as glamorous as Hollywood makes it seem.
And don't get stumped by the lofty term "assassin." Some work for governments, but many are independent. On a more local level, organized crime like the Italian mob and street gangs use "hitters" all the time. They work alone or in teams. Most of the time, we don't even know when somebody's been killed by a professional.

reply

You have it right.
Hollywood doesn't make this stuff out of thin air, but from the movies you would think that the most of the intelligence community are assassins or part of "rogue operations".

Sanctioned assasination teams are extremely rare,
However, the US had used them in Afghanistan and against al Queda.
They are justified as being part of a war, but with a non-conventional war there are a lot of gray areas.

Under limited circumstance I no problem with it.
