Why is this movie so massively underrated?

When you look through the reviews, clearly, the majority of people are impressed. I thought this was by far Dwayne Johnson's best performance to date, he comes right back into the 'muscle man' side of things with a bang. The emotion in this film, to me, is quite astounding. As his brother dies you find yourself stirred in a way that he must have been at the time, as as he visits the house of his ex girlfriend and she shouts after him 'Kill them all' you find yourself cheering him on.

This movie to me is very stirring, the emotion included in this movie is hugely deceiving when it seems to portray a basic action movie. The soundtrack, also, is absolutely awesome. The song 'Goodbye My Friend' in particular I thought took this movie from good to brilliant. I've always been a fan of Dwayne Johnson, even since his WWE days everyone knew there was something special about him. He has the charisma that separates him from mere mortals like ourselves, and a gritty determination that gives him the means to succeed.

I honestly believe Dwayne Johnson is one of the diamonds of Hollywood and needs to be utilized in more dramatic roles, like in this movie combining both his obvious physical attributes and also his amazing acting ability is where you get the best out of 'The Rock'. There were rumours that when he went back into the WWE he was quitting acting, due to his frustration at being pigeonholed when it came to the roles available. Hollywood need to realise how good he is, he knows he can act and other people need to realise that too.

If you haven't yet, I suggest you watch this in HD to truly see the emotion and become enthralled in his journey. I watched this on Blu Ray and I couldn't tear my eyes away. I recognise this as, as I see it, a great movie by one of the best upcoming actors in Hollywood. It is ironic that it would be so underrated but there are those of us that love the movie and I just hope Dwayne Johnson perseveres and makes more movies with this amount of gripping emotion and edge of your seat anticipation in future, if not it truly would be a shame.

Like so many have said, this is a movie that was something of a surprise and gets better with a second viewing - or even a third as just was the case for me on HBO Asia. Apart from excellent performances all round (I also believe Johnson is a very underrated actor with that physical presence the camera just loves) Faster is wonderfully shot with an understated pacing which just works and a tremendous soundtrack. A rating of 6.5 just doesn't seem right. Saw the trailer today for Johnson's upcoming Snitch which looks a bit more cookie cutter than Faster, but, hey, I'll watch it just for Dwayne

Overall, I could file this one along with most action thrillers but The Rock's performance makes all the difference. Right from the start the intense look in his eyes was like nothing I've seen from him. Great performance that uplifts an otherwise average revenge film.

This is, by a large margin, Dwayne's best film. He mostly keeps his mouth shut and conveys hi character through intense facial expressions and mannerisms. I don't understand how this film can be rated so poorly while other films of his, particularly the never-ending F&F series, boast higher ratings. I guess some audience members and critics alike need their action films spoon-fed to them in a manner to which they are accustomed. This film dared to go outside some of the "action film follies" and therefore was not as highly received. Kudos to "The Rock" for finally doing something worthwhile & not simply putting in his time to earn a paycheck.

I first watched Faster around two years ago, thought it was really good although I found the English hitman's character and role annoying. I thought the film would have been better and received greater notice without his inclusion as such. A hitman was needed to "complete" the circle, but spending so much time on showing his backstory made me feel nothing for him as a character. His chatty conversations with his therapist subtracted from the overall theme. He wasn't engaging, and his pettiness with being embarassed and one'upped was so forced.

Thornton and Gugino were on level. They played their roles, though I never understood "The Cop's" motivation for what he did. Maybe I just missed that, along with the fact the "end" (no spoiler) was somewhat a surprise for me.

That being said, it was the writing at issue, the telling of the story, not the actors. I thought Dwayne Johnson's performance was solid, and he showed understandable emotion at key times though his expressions during flashback "double cross" scene was a bit exaggerated I felt, but how might you or I look in the same situation? His conflicted emotions at the end, however, was pretty damned good as they were highlighted by the excellent performance by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, whose been overlooked in almost every review on this site I've read. It was "The Evangelist" who finally touched "Driver."
