Mixed emotions here after digesting the last episode
I thought it was a decent season - kept my interest and I was definitely entertained. The best part of the whole episode was when Angela realized she was 'had' by Dexter and starts screaming obscenities while running to her truck.
I'm mixed on the ending... I don't mind Dexter dying, but I didn't particularly like how they got there. His killing a cop in the last act - a good man all around - seemed a little forced/rushed and way out of character.
My problem, in the end, is the character of Harrison. I didn't like him. I don't think anyone did. They didn't create him to have any real redeeming qualities - he wasn't funny, he wasn't charming, he wasn't interesting or smart. He was just sullen. I had no sympathy for him. How do I root for a guy that is not compelling?
I'll take it another step - I was really hoping Dexter would have killed Harrison. After all, Harrison absolutely RUINED another family's life with the fake school shooting, broke another kid's arm, and is a second away from slicing two other teenagers up. What's to stop him from snapping and becoming a serial killer? Not much, just a couple words from dear old pop to use the 'code' and only kill bad guys. Killing Harrison then taking his own life would have been a much more shocking, interesting finale. A "stop the madness" sort of thing.
I get the open ending where Harrison is free and on the open road to whatever comes next. It's a possible teaser to a new 'Dexter.' The problem is this kid is no Dexter. I don't think he can hold up as a lead character whatsoever.
