One Major Plot Hole

There's a part where they get lost in the woods. It's winter in the Catskills, and there's snow all over the ground, but no one thought to just follow their footsteps in the snow. That would be the obvious first thought that comes to mind. When they first got lost, it was daylight and it was way easier to see, but even with the camera at night, they could see too. In the movie, I could see the characters' footprints. At one point, they mention the animal tracks, and I thought that one of the characters would come up with the idea, but no one did. That was a big oversight in the writing.

yeah i didnt get that part either, they were too busy freaking out and fighting to think rationality. The animal they heard could have been just a poor deer they gave a heart attack to by their screaming lol.

Not to mention the fact that, as some of the reviews mention, that huge house was blazing with light from every window. Out in the country at night, that much light would be seen for miles, if only as a glow in the distance (which any lost person with a grain of sense - something that at least Mark seemed to have - would have followed). Even if the house was on the other side of a ridge - quite possible in that hilly country - the glow would still appear above the hilltop.

That scene might have worked if it was snowin. You’re right, they could have just retraced their footsteps
