Why did Sackhoff go topless for this film?
Riddick isn't exactly a star vehicle, and the film wasn't really short on nudity. I was rather surprised when Sackhoff turned up on screen naked.
shareShe going on 34 years old and most likely did it to amp up her career. Not saying that was her only reason but one logically one reason. When female actors start aging they find it harder to find film roles and end up doing TV which she's been doing a lot of that lately.
Anyway, I don't think nudity is a big deal to actresses anymore except for a few. It's so commonplace nowadays most of the audience doesn't even think of it as issue except maybe adolescent males.

She's probably at the stage where she's being offered roles with nudity and she doesn't have enough leverage to eliminate the nudity, only to maybe influence it to where it isn't "exploitative", such as her incidental partial topless scene in this movie.
Anyway, I don't think nudity is a big deal to actresses anymore except for a few. It's so commonplace nowadays most of the audience doesn't even think of it as issue except maybe adolescent males.
I would think it isn't a big deal, especially considering actresses like Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard and others have managed long, critically successful careers with a lot of nudity.
But there remain significant exceptions, like Julia Roberts, Sarah Jessica Parker, Natalie Portman that really haven't done any nudity or actively oppose it. Kelly McDonald was full-front nude in Trainspotting but I believe has gone on record as refusing to do it again. I think some have rightly been cautious about being exploited, although with people like Sarah Jessica it seems odd to be too high-minded considering that Kim Cattrall did a ton of nudity in Sex and the City.

Another one that nudity doesn't seem to bother is Keira Knightley. She even thinks that nudity is "normal". I can't remember the first time she appeared nude or partially nude in a film. Breast wise she doesn't have a lot to worry about though. ๐

I guess it boils down to a casting thing. If you for-sure need nudity in your film either get an actress who doesn't care, pay the freight for Kate Winslet or cast a B star who doesn't have other choices.

2001 - Film called The Hole. I remember it because she flashes her chest at someone and because, according to her DoB, she was 15 when she filmed it. ๎

Thanks for the reply. I had forgot about the post I made back in 2014 but nice to get an answer about Kiera. I never heard of "The Hole" but looked it up and also Kiera's bio and saw that it did mention it was her first nude scene. I didn't think that was allowed for a 15 yr. old even if they didn't release the film until she was 16. I can't imagine that she had any breasts at all at 15 since she doesn't have much now. :)
