Movies That Got Time Travel Right

isn't the whole idea of alternate timelines just a theory anyway? since we can't actually travel into the past IN REAL LIFE the whole idea of creating alternative timelines is moot anyway

we can't test the theory because we can't, really, go back in time. we can only guess what MIGHT happen IF we actually invent a time machine to do it and Albert Einstien stated that we can never go backwards in time at all

If we were able to invent a real "live" time machine then we can test it, but since we can't then all the theories of alternate timelines and paradoxes will just be conjecture, the stuff of fanciful dreams

there was a good 1987 tv movie called timestalkers with william devane, lauren hutton and klaus kinski

about a history professor in 1980s california who buys an old trunk from an auction and finds an old tin type photograph from the 1880s of a old west gunfighter armed with a .357 magnum revolver

as it turns out, the man in the photo was a scientist from the 26th century who, along with another man and his daughter, invent time travel after he kills the other scientist, he takes an old .357 magnum and travels back to the 19th century to kill the scientist's ancestor

the second scientist's daught takes another device, travels back to the 1980s to meet the professor to try to help her track down the villian before he can change history

there is a subplot about the professor's wife and son who were killed some time before these events in a car accident. after the professor and the scientist's daughter set time right, she sends him back in time in order to save his wife and son from dying in he accident
