Ian

Why do people hate him? I'm new to the party so I've missed out on all the gossip

reply

Because he's anti-Delena and isn't afraid of speaking his mind about the problematic aspects of this show which leads to an ironic situation where the biggest fans of his character, Damon, are the actor, Ian's, biggest haters while people who don't particularly care for Damon - or at least Damon the way the show has been writing him - are fond to neutral about Ian the person.

reply

I really hope your joking. Lol. I can't see how someone can be a fan of the character and hate the actor. He's not that good an actor lol

Ian is insufferable and immature. Listening to his interviews makes me cringe which is why i rarely do anymore. Something has changed from when he started TVD. He's constantly on his high horse about something. He's also talked inappropriately in front of young fans which creeps me out. I honestly don't care how he feels about Delena. He does his job which is what matters to me in that regard. He's extremely immature when it comes to Nina or Elena returning. He was the only cast member not to publicly wish her well when she left the show but during Nina's last weeks filming she was posting pics of the two of them like it was no big deal. She also posted something when he directed a TVD ep for the first time. He just seems unprofessional. His comic con interviews were just embarrassing when the interviewer brought Nina up or if any old characters would be returning which made Julie have to put him in his place. It was just weird and uncomfortable.

I get an unpleasant vibe from Ian when I watch his interviews. But I can't hate Damon. It is very weird and I can't explain it.
If Delena gets a happy ending I'll be ok with it. If Damon dies or finds someone else I'll be ok with it too. I just don't care anymore, I lost passion for this show long time ago. I think it all started with Ian and Nina separating. It's like they lost the spark even on screen. Their real life relationship shows threw their characters and it's unpleasant to watch. Even in their scenes together you can see how uncomfortable they are after the separation and his marriage. I just wish they never hooked up, it would all have been better on screen and in my head. I love all their scenes up to season 4, then it went downhill for me.

I don't think "everyone" hates him. I don't.

He's always a little "too" talkative in his interviews, he used to be a real spotlight hog in anything involving the show. Now, he's not so bad.

A lot of people dislike that he's obviously against Delena and or Nina returning.

Tbh, he was dissing Delena before him and Nina broke up, so idk why Delena fans get so mad about his opinion.

Paul use to diss Stelena, the only ship any of the actors have got behind was Steroline and Forwood.

I guess it's a hell of a thing to be obsessed with a ship and the actor that plays these fangirls Dream guy could care less about the relationship.

reply

yeah that's what never got, why is he so against nina returning?
it's a job ffs, be professional...

I've never seen him actually state Nina shouldn't return, just that Delena shouldn't get a happy ending. Which is all or nothing for most Delena fans, so that equates to "Nina shouldn't return"

Some are entitled to thinking that he is suppose to support or praise Delena and not speak out against them. Or think that he is suppose to speak a certain way about Nina and always ask questions about her return. But, I don't know why interviewers and fans always ask the rest of the cast about Nina's return. Only NIna can answer that and give her fans the answers that they want to hear.

They can only answer but so many times. Like when someone asked Kat the other night about Nina's return, she told the truth about how only Nina could answer that.

Seems like some constantly ask Ian about Delena/Nina and expecting him to give them answers to hold onto hope and really no matter how many times JP reassures them about what Nina said, it's only Nina could can answer them in the end.

Some don't like Ian's answer's when it comes to Nina, but it's still her who choose to leave and she hasn't really said a lot from her own mouth and hasn't given a lot of interviews about TVD, so why put everything on Ian or the rest of the cast always asking about Nina? They have to focus on themselves and can't read Nina's mind or speak for her.

I dislike the fact that he shows his utter contempt for the De fans to the point that he refused to answer a young girls question at a fan convention. A particular section of the fandom, mainly Nian and Nine fans have been pretty horrible to Ian and Nikki and he has chosen to lash out and condemn the whole De fandom, many of whom have given nothing but support to him and his foundation. it's the same old adage, he acknowledges and gives the attention to the haters while ignoring the vast majority of fans that praise and worship him.

Ian has intermittently got behind and beat down De over the years but lately he has let his personal life infiltrate his Pov to the point he has been downright rude and disrespectful of the show and fans.
Talking about bamon banging on Elena coffin was crass and offensive tbh, and Paul acts no better at times. In fact when they do cons together, they do come over as being very immature and not very likeable.
don't get me wrong, I like that they have a bit of a laugh about the show and don't seem to take it so seriously however, there is a difference in the tone of the banter lately that is a turn off.

I see. Kinda like they think they are too good for the show?? If they hate it so much it's a good thing it's ending. Too bad for the ones who like there job and wanna eat though

reply

IDK if it's they think they are too good for the show, I think they are kinda over it. That's what it seems like to me anyway.

reply

Kinda makes me feel bad for them because I know what it's like to hate your job but on the other hand I'll miss my show lol.

reply

i like Ian physically, he's attractive. And Damon was quite the sexy bad boy once but now idk, he's kind of full of himself...

I don't understand the hate or the love, to be honest. I'm neutral towards Ian as an actor and Damon as a character.

He's not a great actor. Sure, he's got looks, but that seems to be all he can offer. His filmography isn't that impressive and TVD and Lost have been his biggest successes and I really can't see him reaching a higher level of fame or ever being respected as an actor/artist/performer. I mean for crying out loud the man auditioned for the 50 Shades of Grey movie. No respected actor wanted to touch that *beep* AND he didn't get the role.

As for Damon. Well, he's just not interesting or unpredictable anymore, and that's what made him fun. In any other show he would've been killed off/written out long ago. Instead they toned him down and turned him into a lovesick puppy who's repetitive behavior/arcs are just one of the many frustrating things that have contributed to the show's decline in quality. Ian can't be blamed for that, that's on Julie Plec and Caroline Dries. However, it does give me an understanding of how he presents himself towards the show in interviews. He's over it just as much as most of the fans are. My sympathies also go out to him when it comes to the obsessive fangirls. It's one thing to ship Delena so passionately for the show, but it's quite another when people ship Ian and Nina and constantly insult Ian's wife publicly and on social media as if she has ANYTHING to do with the way the show is written or whatever went on between Ian and Nina privately.

I find it kind of refreshing, though, when he voices his honest opinions about the show and Delena. I mean, it's not like they can fire him. There is no show without Damon at this point, which is why the show is really ending - because he decided not to sign on for any more seasons, just like Kat Graham. The show could easily continue without Kat (and it hasn't been for lack of Julie Plec trying to get rid of her) but there's now show without Damon this far into it.

reply

He just seems extreeemely "actory" to me which I hate more than anything but I like his character and just don't watch him outside of his shows.

reply

It's not that people hate him, it's just that some fans can't separate his character from his real self and that has affected his personal life in a negative way. Fans got really attached to Damon and Elena and Ian and Nina. Ever since they broke up, fans have been very vocal about wanting them to get together again. Things got worse when he married Nikki. People used to go (they probably still go) on his wife's social media and call her a whore, ugly bitch, saying that he loves Nina and always will, etc etc

Ian has, ever since the beginning of the show, been saying that Elena should just end up with Matt and that the Salvatore brothers are bad for her. But he's been more vocal and controversial about TVD and Damon ever since the situation with his wife. Now, he makes sure to let people know that Damon is a fictional character, that he's a really bad person and that people shouldn't like him and stuff like that. And because of his comments, some fans have started to dislike him, saying that he's bitter and immature, which is quite ironic because they started it.

Which would be worse - to live as a monster, or to die as a good man? 

reply

He's a fair point there lol. Some people are so disturbing. Can't believe they go as far as all his wife names.
