I thought Kat said before that someone was dying, so I guess it is #2.

#2, Kat let that one slip at comic con, she said someone is dying midseason. I'm guessing Tyler or Bonnie. The only reason I think Bonnie might die is that Kat knew about it, but no one else mentioned it, and that was long before the script for that ep was written, so the writers must have talked to her about it. I was really hoping that they'd find a loophole for the coma, partly because I've really started to love Bonenzo, but unless she turns into a vamp, that endgame won't work. Unless she does turn into a vampire and the death they're talking about isn't permanent, lol.

If Bonnie does die, either Nina's back for the second half of the season or it turns out that Kai lied and there's another way to wake up Elena, and that's the final plot of the series. Or something to that effect.
