I honestly don't have a clue. Most people just blame Elena not being there. Elena is one of my favorites but I think season 7 was AMAZING even without her.

I looooooved the heretics, Valerie was definitely a highlight of season 7, wonderful character with so much depth. I loved Nora and Mary Louise aswell, their relationship was hilarious. Beau, Malcolm and Oscar were quite dull however.

Hated Julian, Grew to like Lily, fell inlove with Valerie, cried like a bitch when Nora and ML died together...

Only thing I didn't really like was Enzo. For seasons now he's just been the most useless character who I don't even understand why is still on this show. However his arc with Bonnie was interesting and had made me more fond of him.

How could you like the heretics? They are by far imo the most annoying characters in the show's history. The writing on them is beyond terrible. In season 6 they are referred to as vicious mass murderers who have killed thousands, and in season 7 while they do start like that they suddenly get turned into annoying anti-heroes and Valerie even gets turned into a protagonist?! You are supposed to feel sorry when Nora and ML die? They were supposed to be villains!

Julian was actually a proper villain in S7. But the way you truly do a villain is like Kai, imo probably the best villain (along with Katherine) this show has had.

Enzo as always was annoying and worthless, I really hate that character, he goes from bad to good in a matter of a few episodes and most of the time I have no idea why he is there. Kind of like Matt. The storyline with Bonnie was idiotic though, she falls in love with him? Hadn't she cut off his hand a few episodes before? Hadn't she hated him for being evil? It just shows terrible writing.

I disagree. Those werewolves from season 2 aswell as the hunters from season 4 were beyond annoying. Lets not forget basically all of Jo's family (excluding her) Sarah, Ivy....

They were though, but Lily had them on a tight leash when they came back into the world. Valerie had a great arc, from the getgo she was filled with hatred, it was amazing to see why she was. Totally unexpected

So was Katherine. I think of them to be just like her, a huge bitch, but likeable nonetheless. It was great to see their relationship evolve and see how far they were willing to go to protect each other, they were misguided, misunderstood.

I think Julian was there for too long and Rayna for not long enough. I loved how badass Rayna was but she should've stayed longer. Katherine was great, but how much could they really have continued doing with her? It was just the same story over and over "Wahhh my life sucks I blame the girl that looks exactly like me"

I have to disagree with this aswell, the episodes may have been a few apart, but there was a 3 year time jump. It was understandable that Bonnie got to know him better (same case with Damon, she hated him, got to know him better and now they're best friends)Enzo was the only one still there for her, Elena was slumbering, Stefan was off with Valerie, Caroline moved away with Alaric, Matt had his own life...It's easy to fall inlove with someone who rescues you when you feel utterly alone.

Let's agree to disagree with the heretics, because I really hated those characters. Nora and ML weren't misunderstood, they were always cruel and vicious to anyone except each other. Not really misunderstood imo. I agree Rayna was a good antagonist but at the end her storyline got drawn out too much for my taste.
With Katherine I do agree, by season 5 there really wasn't much else they could do with her. What I liked about her and about Kai was that they were true villains and the writers didn't attempt to turn them into anti-heroes. Kinda like Julian as well.
