What season would have stopped if you were in charge?

If you were Julie Pec and you could see into the future that Nina wasn't going to be on and might not come back in the finale. The ratings going down the tube. What season would you have properly ended it on? Or at least given the fans a satisfying ending? Or what season would have been a good ending spot for you? Mine would be either season three or six. Both ending tragically with the main character.

season 4.

The story premise (a girl confused about two brothers) should have ended there.

After that it was all a drag and contrived angst.

Your right. Season four had the better ending when I think about it. Elena had her humanity back. The originals were heading out of town. It seemed like a good place to end it. Katherine finally got what was coming to her turning into a human but was still alive. Perfect place to end it.

At the end of s03. Season 4 happened when inconsistent writing happened to create the circumstances to get Damon the girl. At this point, I don't even mind that Damon got her. But season 3 happened naturally, character driven plots. Then at season 4, when the choice was already sort of made, the sire bond happened, out of the blue - and even after it ended, it is then swept under the rug, and we are to pretend it had no effect, and it was still Damon anyway. That was how I view it all.

But the character driven plots are the best. Organic growth. When they had to start retconning and altering that, as far as I am concerned, the show should end.

The thing is that they knew that Nina wasn't coming back since season 4. She told them and they had tywo years to wrap up Elena's story and didn't. Nina wanted Elerna to be killed off or to move on from both brothers and leave but they didn't.For me, when they started to turn Elena into someone she's not just to fit Damon, when both realized how toxic their relationship was, is when Delena should have ended. The show was supposed to end at season 6, they should have ended it there but with a different ending, wraping up the characters's stories

This isn't up to JP but to The CW. I would still have gone with 10 seasons as initially planned, but fixing what eroded the viewership, i. e. uncouple everybody and start over.

6 seasons were initially planned. They all had a 6 years contract

reply

Plecs vision from S3 on was 10 seasons. She was trying to at everyone to sign on for more years, obviously not everyone did.

reply

From s3, not from the begining.First it was 6 years planned, that's why everyone's contract was for 6 years.

I honestly think this is a story that could have gone on awhile (with different people moving into lead roles). I think there is still a lot of narrative that could be told, the problem is it isn't in capable hands. The show doesn't suck now because it ran its course, it sucks because Julie Plec are incompetent writers and ruined a good show. There is still so much of Bonnie's story to be told, the Gemini coven was another avenue, the heretics, Katherine redemption, etc.

reply

In a different show, Bonnie or Caroline could lead. But for that they need to completly move away from the books and the show's story:A teenage girl falls in love with two vampire brothers. It's Elena's story.Katherine redemption should have happened. For me,she was more redeemable than Stefan and Damon

reply

Yeah... this is what I thought they would do after Nina left. I thought Caroline and Bonnie would move into the leads. Instead they made it about Damon and Stefan ... which had already been done to death at that point. They missed such an opportunity with Katherine's redemption!! I was really rooting for that and they seemed to start that arch then it was like they changed their minds. It would have been interesting to see. I always thought in the end she should have ended up with Stefan. I also was interested in a Kai redemption arch. They seemed to start that briefly as well when he started to feel bad for all the things he had done. I always root for those type of characters to turn things around. I wasn't really a bonnie-kai shipper. I didn't care who he ended up with... but seeing his redemption would have been nice.

Season 5 with Steferine and Delena endgame.

reply

They could have done that in s6 instead of killing Katherine in s5.I don't get how Damon and Stefan are redeemable but not Katherine

Season 2 or 3. I liked every episode from the beginning to the end of season 2. I'd just add a "conclusion" to end of season 2 instead of leaving it on a cliff hanger.

Season 3 is where it got weird and bad. I'd definitely end it BEFORE Elena accepted Damon kissing her while she still thought there was a chance with her and Stefan.

reply

I agree season two had a great ending and you still have Elena as a great female love interest character instead of ruining her character in the next three seasons.

reply

season 4, but of course i'd end it properly, not with the cliffhanger

if you can't handle me saying eggsactly instead of exactly, we can't be friends

reply

I would have ended this series at the end of season 6 with a happy Jo and Alaric wedding with implied HEA for everyone else.

Season 7 was a hot mess and this season is not much better so far although the last 2 episodes have been pretty great.
