Which character/villain did you prefer?
My vote goes to Kai, hands down.
I'm in the minority in that I never liked Klaus, thought he overstayed his welcome, and found him a little pathetic lol.

Same. Not a fan of Klaus. I hate him almost as much as I hate Damon and Steffan. Klaus, in particular, acts so entitled and like he's the only person in the universe who has been wronged by anyone.

Agreed! I didn't hate him as much as I do Damon, but I found him so uninteresting and lame all around. He constantly acted like he was wronged and unlike Kai or Katherine, never owned up to who he was. Maybe he would at times, but then he'd share some boo hoo story about his dad or mom and we were supposed to sympathize w him.
I also hated that they tried making his backstory so overly sympathetic. Mommy and daddy issues, blegh. Why can't a villain just be a villain without some elaborate "my daddy hated him so it's not my fault that I'm this way"
Exactly. I get that some villains do have a backstory or history that led them to make bad choices, but villains can just be evil without the sad backstory. And you can't keep harping on mommy and daddy issues for hundreds of years. The thing about these immortal beings is that they have the ability to start over and recreate themselves. When you're human you got to deal with the consequences of your actions and everything that happens to you. You have to move on. People like Klaus, Damon and Steffan never just move on. Immortality is wasted on them.

Kai/Katherine is one of my crackships lmao. I'd watch the hell out of that, but anything Julie touches turns to *beep* after 3 seasons so idk if I'd want it to be a long running spin off.
shareKlaus in TVD was introduced as the worst vampire to walk the earth. Then he started becoming nice and then he moved to New Orleans and was good then bad then good again until he changed completely from being a villain into just a good vempire who sometimes has to do something bad.
Kai feels more like a villain, he doesn't have a redemption arc like Klaus does. Problem was always in Klaus's inconsistent character and nature. But Kai is really a psychopath.
Kai, I liked Klaus before Klaroline, I know I'll get hate for that but I think the whole Klaroline thing marshmallowed his character as a villain too much for me

Kai is the villain. Klaus is not a villain anymore. Klaus bark is worse than his bite whereas Kai is a real evil guy IMO.
Klaus is def a better written character.

Kai. I think JoMo did a great job as Klaus but after the first season he was on, he lost his bite and I did think he seemed pathetic. He just didn't have compelling motivation for anything.
Chris's portrayal of Kai was just awesome. It reminded me of Patrick Bateman at times. He managed to be snarky, scary (and hot af).
Kia is very unpredictable and explosive. You feel off guard when he strikes.Was excited to see his character to reappear on February 17 episode coming up.
shareKai,Klaus cant isnt even a good good guy. He's not likable whatsoever in any aspect and his reasoning is a whiny given all hes gained. Kai on the otherhand is charismatic and you can kind of hope he can be redeemed. Yes he killed his family but you gotta admit that coven and their one twin must die rule was kind of harsh especially with kai having no actual magic to defend himself against Joe. Call me bias but I wanted him to turn good and shipped him and Bonnie lol.
shareKai was a good villian, but could never hold my interest for 4-5 seasons like Klaus and his family have. Klaus never had time to get over his mommy/daddy issues since they tortured him for 1000 years until recently. Klaus and Katherine were the first villians that had a sad back story, now they give a sad story to everyone.
