based on real life. Yes it is.

We just finished seeing this movie, at home on DVD. I like Rashida Jones and since she wrote it I was curious to learn what her influences were. As I watched the movie I found myself wondering how realistic the story might be for modern 30-somethings.

There is a nice "extra" on the DVD, about 13 minutes long. The first 6 to 7 minutes is just fluff, basically the actors and director summarizing the movie, unnecessary for anyone who just saw it. But ...

...the last few minutes contain some interesting things from Rashida herself and a couple of others. The character Celeste is just a "heightened" version of Rashida herself, and that is how she explained it. And, all those "bad dates" we see Celeste having, even the one where the guy gets turned on and pleasures himself, are all based on real experiences Rashida had with bad dates over the years. I found that pretty interesting.

I saw that too. I also found it quite interesting. This was such a hard movie to watch because they just seemed absolutely perfect for each other in most ways. I so badly wanted them to end up together, but I loved that it wasn't your typical ending.

"oh, nice socks man. nice socks"

Just saw this and I'm in my early thirties. I can totally relate. I went through something very similar and even though the girl I was with was pretty much a perfect match I wasn't in the same state of mind or maturity at the time. Then there's the awkward dating with different people that just don't seem to match up. lol. And the heart break of knowing that the other person has found someone else. Pretty much I was the guy version of celeste
