I Almost Had A Heart Attack When I Saw The Chalkboard

I saw this movie last night and was really anticipating it, but I had absolutley NO idea about the ending. In the beginning of the movie I found it normal that Tyler's class was talking about terrorism, but I didn't know that the movie's setting was before 2010. As soon as Caroline's teacher moved away from the board to reveal the date my jaw dropped and I almost fell to the floor. I was thinking "Oh god no! WTF!?" I started crying and freaked out. I have to hand it to the writers that I was never in a million years expecting that type of ending.

There were a lot of hints throughout the movie, though I understand your shock. 1991 + 10 years = 2001, they mentioned Labour day, then Caroline went back to school, they didn't try to keep a secret throughout the movie, which is what some people tend to think.

Regardless, your shock is completely understandable. As for the person I saw it with, when the date was revealed she still didn't quite get it until it happened.

I never noticed the signs in the movie. And even if you know it's 2001 you can't assume that every movie that put its characters in that year will have something to do with it.

When I saw the date my jaw dropped . I was like "are you kidding me?!?"!
Really great and unexpected ending it changed the whole movie for me , in a good way.

I was wondering where it was going. When the music started playing I knew something bad was going to happen.

It wasnt the date that gave it away, it was the scene just before they showed the date on teh chalkboard. he walked to the window which were obvious were exactly like the ones in the Towers. As soon as I saw that then they date was shown, I was like...oh man, he is in the Towers, he gets killed on 9/11.

Well done!

At the beginning of the film, when they were talking about terrorism, I assumed that 9/11 had already happened. But then I kind of just forgot about the whole thing. Every now and then I would have to remind myself it was set in 2001. But that ending, man, I gasped! As soon as you saw the windows from the exterior, you just knew what building it was. And that is saying alot, cause I am Australian! So those buildings have just been imprinted in our minds. And then I saw sitting there going 'are they going to show it?', 'that's a big step'...but not showing it, just made it more powerful! Very good ending!

The first time I was completely shocked, too. I literally felt my heart rate increase and my mouth drop open, then my mom blurts out, "I think they're going to kill him!" Yeah...thanks, Mom.

I only watched this movie cause I was bored and on christmas holidays with too much time on my hands. Did NOT expect to be teary eyed when it was over.
I noticed that it was in 2001, and the 'recent terrorist attacks' being mentioned in the beginning but I thought that meant 9/11 had already happened, and then kind of forgot about the whole thing for the rest of the movie. I was shocked at the end for sure.

man i have not cried this hard in the ending of a movie since "My Sister's Keeper". I was another one that was totally caught of guard, I was so distracted by the sappy love story that the ending came as such a huge shock I couldnt control myself. I wept uncontrollably like a baby, plus I am extra sensitive to 9/11 because I am from New York and was 16 and remember it all, it is something I still have a hard time with, and it seems like the older I get the more I understand and the more emotional and difficult it is to deal with 9/11. Well I am grateful that the ending wasnt spoiled for me and that I was able to fully appreciate the wonderfulness of the movie

Yet another New-Yorker who doesn't feel offended by the ending of Remember me, even if it moved you to tears. Replies such as yours are so meaningful to those who defended the movie after the critics had slammed it for being manipulative and exploiting. Thanks a lot!

I just watched this for the first time today. I had no idea that was coming, but when I saw the date my heart just sank. I immediately knew what was coming and began to break down. I was 15 on that day but this was the first time that the full implications of it hit me. So many untold stories, so many lives that were senselessly lost... I'm still reeling... amazing ending.

I heard a dial up modem in the police station and was wondering about that. Now that makes sense.

Nice catch on the modem... will have to look for that next time I watch.
