Why do all westerns made since about 1980 have to have that stupid sepia tone to them? And all modern WW2 movies have this washed out pale look. Post apocalyptic movies have a filter that is somewhat in between the two.
Why can't we just have nice bright color? The most appealing color scheme is to be found in old technicolor movies from years prior to the mid-70s.

shareI guess the filmmakers think it will take too many people out of the film if it had the clarity aspect of a modern film, that it might be too jarring for most people watching who live outside the farm and country, not well acquainted in their lives due to lack of exposure. The filmmakers are catering to people's popular perceptions about the western genre.

OP is talking about using bright technicolor colors. And I agree with that idea.
