Stranger things or Dark Tower?

Will this be a new hit like Stranger Things or will it get lost like the Dark Tower? All opinions are welcome.

I have a feeling it's going to do well. Seems to be a lot of buzz going back almost a year now.

It's going to do very well initially. The trailers are great, it has a serious Stranger Things vibe, which is VERY popular right now, and there is much love for the material, which is MUCH more accessible and familiar to general audiences due to the mini-series we've had kicking around for decades. How much more it makes depends on word of mouth if it's good or not.

Stranger Things is a TV show that has nothing to do with Stephen King. I'm not seeing the connection.

It might have an overlapping audience in that both feature a group of young friends who are somewhat geeky losers who investigate strange events and disappearances in a small town.

The new "It" producers certainly made a connection by basically using the same cinematography, actors, and 1980s era Americana imagery. The original story took place in the late 50s (Stephen King's era) so I completely see the studio latching onto "Stranger Things" appeal.

Have you seen Stranger Things? The Stephen King influences are unmistakable. The creators of the show have said as much, many times.

I think it's going to be a new hit like Stranger Things. Nearly all the reviews are positive, and people just seem to really be loving this film. I can't imagine it being that this film gets lost like "The Dark Tower," it has a fairly big fandom already and it just has way too much stuff going for it.

The early buzz is positive. Very positive in fact the word is the movie is as scary as one could hope for, and it does not hold back when it comes to violence. It's also being described as pure fun and "different but in a really good way" by an approving Stephen King.

Now, throw in the clown hysteria that's been going on for a while (specifically cuz of last year's events), the book & mini-series arguably experiencing more popularity than ever (much of it can be attributed to its villain), the fact the movie has been hyped up for over a year, and I predict this is bound to be a hit no matter what Rotten Tomatoes says. Of course, until the "real" critics have their say, we'll know for sure if the movie will have staying power and leave a lasting impression.

But I do have a good feeling the movie is going to find an audience, a la Stranger Things--though this will obviously be for older audiences. Speaking of, it's neat how one of the main kids from Stranger Things is notably in this movie.

Stranger Things isn't scary or all that interesting. Overrated IMO.

I find the show more charming and, yes, interesting than scary.

And while it might be full of more references than original ideas, the nostalgia it provides has not only appealed to those who grew up in the 80's, but it has connected with younger audiences as well. In a word, it's been done effectively.
