One of the reasons I love this action movie: So Bright!

Most of this film is shot in bright sunlight. You can see everything. It's never murky and you just have to guess what's happening. You see every brutal second. When they DO do night scenes, they're gorgeous, HD blue light. And you still see it all. It's such a beautiful film. In ACTION no less. You simply don't see this. It's unreal.

It's amazing what you get when you film something actually happening rather than relying on a computer to fake it for you, then darken it to hide the flaws.

reply

Most of this movie is CGI though

reply

That isn't true at all, at least not as it relates to the topic at hand.

reply

It’s true, it has almost as many VFX shots as Avengers Endgame.

reply

You're equating apples and oranges here. Fury Road used CGI the way all films do in the digital era, to adjust colors, create backdrops, and generally fill out the edges. Unlike an Avengers film, or any modern action film, Fury Road filmed real actors performing real stunts using real vehicles and real props. That's why it looks so real, and could be so bright-- because everything you see really happened.

reply

Not really. Avengers movies also use “real stunts, vehicles and props,” but they also use a boatload of noticeable CGI to enhance it. Which is also what Fury Road did. There was CGI in virtually every scene, either explosions or people or backgrounds etc. in fact most of the movie was done in front of a green screen.

reply

NO...MOST OF IT WAS FILMED IN THE DESERT IN NAMIBIA...AND THE EFFECTS SHOTS WERE..."The extensive effects work included altering lighting and time of day, weather effects, terrain replacement and plate composition."

reply

Included, but not limited to. A lot of explosions were CGI, stunts were CGI enhanced to give it a more cartooney look. They still filmed in Namibia, but a lot of it was green screen. Kinda like how the Force Awakens was filmed in the Arabian desert but still used a ton of CGI and green screen as well.

Also why are you breaking your rule and not writing in all caps? Hypocrite much?

reply

YOU DON'T SEEM TO KNOW VERY MUCH ABOUT...ANYTHING.

reply

George Miller himself has said 90% of the film is practical effects.

reply

Yeah he would, he’s trying to market his movie. Spielberg and Lucas said the same thing about Crystal Skull (hint: they were lying).

reply

They might have been, but I don't think Miller was.

reply

I’m not saying he’s “lying,” but he was distorting the truth. The reality is the movie has over 2000 VFX shots. A lot of that goes towards the explosions and effects you see in the movie. Fury Road has about as many “practical stunts” as your average Marvel movie, it’s just the rest is done by computers.

reply

A lot of the explosions were practical though. Like the guitar that shoots flames. It was a guitar that actually shot flames.

reply

Then you would love Michael Bay movies, his movies are all high contrast like Fury Road.

reply

Armageddon is my fave movie of all time. Love me some Bay movies.

reply

Out of curiosity what did you think of 13 hours? I love that movie, I think it's Bays best movie.

reply

Haven't seen it. I didn't even know that was a Bay movie.

reply

Well it is kind of different to his other movies. Visually it's totally Bay but it's more serious than anything else he's done.

reply

Except the night scenes look like they were filmed during day time and then ran it through a blue filter.
Mostly because that's how they did it.

reply

Yeah, but they sure look cool. I love that one scene where they balance the blue with the natural flame. Just gorgeous.

reply

I can't agree on that. It just looks like day with a blue filter, i.e. cheap AF. But I have a problem with whole "Night is day, but blue" thing that movies use, not just in Fury Road. But I have to accept it since we have no good way of shooting during actual night time.

reply

The problem is the shadows are all wrong. That's why it looks so weird.

reply

Yes. That is one of the many reasons I love this movie. It's just gorgeous to look at.
