I mean, the entire movie flows with the rhythm of the soundtrack, which has been praised by everyone who loved the movie.
This was also a technical juggernaut, won 6 Oscars including sound editing and sound mixing.

It had some tough competition. I mean, that is essentially what ruined its chances. Furthermore, despite receiving high praise, it’s not unlikely Fury Road’s score was ultimately considered too much of an action score compared to the “prestigious” sounding scores that ended up getting nominated (in my opinion none were undeserving).
I wouldn’t rule out the Academy not being ready to nominate someone with a name like Junkie XL, either :) But whatever the reason is, there’s no doubt Fury Road’s score is top-tier, especially for a film belonging to the action genre. However, I’m not entirely surprised it got overlooked.
