What a terrible movie!

So much wrong with this film it's hard to know where to begin.

Firstly, it was hard to follow what was going on a lot of the time. I had little clue what the intentions of the bad guys, and the good guys were. It seemed to pluck things out of thin air and run with it, like suddenly the Enchantress has a brother. What were the motives of the two of them? They were not very well explored, nor were a number of the characters.

Terrible casting for the Enchantress. I've felt more intimidated by my pet cats than a young girl looking a bit moody. They could have chosen a better actress for the part, she was poor. Not that the character particularly fits into this sort of universe. In He-Man's universe perhaps, but not Batman's.

The soundtrack was unimaginative. Granted the music is good but it's like some random selections I'd make a playlist out of. It's as if they thought they'd play it safe by choosing some classics people like.

Dialogue was poor. Nothing really clever or memorable, and the jokes fell flat. The Enchantress's script was basically a compilation of various villainous cliches that we've all heard before.

I don't even know what I can say that WAS good about this film. Erm, Harley Quinn's outfit maybe? There was potential in the idea, only the direction and writing was rubbish.

Yeah there were rewrites ongoing as they filmed...supposedly the main cast were unaware of the changes until shortly before shooting scenes...partial scripts were given to principal cast a few pages at a time to avoid leaks etc...
Also read that Deadpool changed the game and they wanted to go 'grittier' or darker or whatever stupid lingo producers use
Overall i enjoyed it in a grab some snacks, shut my brain off and enjoy stuff exploding kinda way
Sometimes im probably too forgiving but whatever...i wasnt expecting any more than i got and i enjoyed it enough
Leto was pretty cool too!

One reason the DC/WB movies are failing so hard is that they're playing this reaction game against Marvel/Disney/Fox, trying to "catch up" all the time. Justice League will probably be worse than Suicide Squad was.

reply

I really hope JL is great but it could be worse if your 'reaction game' theory holds true
We shall see...and like a dummy ill be in line to give them my money so...maybe IM part of the problem :(

reply

Well, Suicide Squad was plagued with rewrites during shooting, JL has been plagued with reshoots and even director-swapping... It's definitely not looking good.

That said, I really enjoyed watching some parts of Suicide Squad. It had its moments.

reply

Jeez didnt even know about the director nonsense on JL
I guess ill just go and see...

Rumor has it that they've stopped copying Marvel, and are now gave an official policy of copying "Wonder Woman". They've even got a slogan for the writers -"Hope, heart, humor, hwatever" something like that.

I'm still surprised they haven't asked Patty Jenkins to take over Snyder's place as "showrunner".

reply

I was surprised how bad it was, I didn't expect that at all. It's just a bunch of "good" villains walking through the streets, that's most of the movie- apart from endless flashbacks. Some people like Robbie, but I just thought she resembled Tank Girl (movie version) in a bad way.

reply

Yes, I agree there are numerous problems with this movie, but I actually liked it and could re-watch it again someday.

Suicide Squad honestly would have been way more interesting if it had been divorced from the universe entirely. Ayer doing a Dirty Dozen with B level villains should have been great instead of just a mess with some good stuff in it.

reply

The simplest explanation is it just didn't work.
