I find it funny that some people think Suicide Squad has disappointing box-office results, because it didn't make as much as Guardians of the Galaxy. What these people fail to realize is that Guardians of the Galaxy had a bigger budget than Suicide Squad. Meaning, Suicide Squad is more profitable than Guardians of the Galaxy. Not to mention, Suicide Squad was able to get over $700 million without China's help.

The problem is that the OP can't conflate that with SS's budget, and realize that it'll probably not actually be $175M - but is likely to be significantly higher than that. Reshoots and re-cuts cost money. It's just that since Marvel shot portions of GotG in the UK, it became public knowledge.

SS had a massive marketing budget.
Trades confirmed that Ike Perlmutter kept the MCU film's marketing budgets really low and cheap during his run, and took a lot of flack for it.
Regardless it kept GOTG's costs down.
GOTG is more profitable.
