A small plot hole I haven't seen others mention: Robert would probably recognize Saito

As Saito is one of his fathers biggest competitors, he could recognize his face. Not saying that he couldn't go at all on the mission, but I do consider it a minor plot hole that this isn't mentioned at all by any of the characters. A good time to mention it is when they try to persuade Saito not to come on the mission, they would then use it as one of their arguments, but he still wouldn't budge and would go on the mission anyway. Then maybe they could do something more with it later in the story.

But yeah, not a plot hole to do with the logistics of the concept or anything, as I'm sure all of that stuff is a dead horse at this point. But a thought I had as I was watching the movie just now

He wasn't very good with faces. Damn, he couldn't even recognize Di Caprio. For god's sake, didn't he watch Titanic??

Not to say none of them could realize that Ellen Page was really a dude. What were they? Blind?

The fact that it wasn't brought up by the movie at all is a minor flaw imo

Did Fischer even see Saito on the first level? The deeper they went the less Fischer was going to remember so I doubt it even mattered.

What I think is a bigger issue is when Fischer wakes up he’s going to realize he was passed out for 10 hours and realize he was drugged , maybe by the guy who handed him a water right before he passed out

Okay...he's wrestling with his father's empire. Goes to sleep, and in his dream, he sees the face of his biggest competitor?

This is not a plot hole at all by any stretch of the term.

the fact that the filmmakers did not take it into consideration is an oversight imo. There should at least have been a throwaway line. My post gives a really good suggestion that doesn't change the movie at all

Did they meet in dream?

I don't remember it, Inception bores the shit out of me, it's The Matrix for dumb people.

Not only should Robert recognize Saito, he should also recognize Cobb. He was apprised of dream technology and how to resist it. Wouldn't he also be warned about the "major players" in that field?

But here's the thing: none of that matters, because the goal wasn't espionage but inception.

Browning will almost certainly be suspicious when Robert suddenly wants to break up the company. It's near-certain that Browning will discover that Saito and Cobb's dream-team were in the same airplane cabin as Robert just before Robert's inexplicable and sudden change of heart.

But again: none of that matters. Once "inception" takes hold, the idea becomes unshakeable in the subject's mind.

Remember: inception drove Mal to kill herself and frame her husband for murder. She never changed her mind; why would Robert?

Browning could extract a signed confession from Cobb that they invaded Robert's dream and incepted the notion to break up the company, and it STILL WOULDN'T MATTER. Robert would STILL want to break up the company.

That's the power of an idea, once it takes hold in your mind.

It's a scary notion, and the most realistic aspect of the film in my opinion.

Consider the following:

- the 2020 election was rigged against Trump.

- the moon landings were faked.

- the earth is flat.

Each of these notions are easily refutable by actual evidence, but they've been "incepted" into the minds of millions who will cling to those notions to their dying breaths, no matter what evidence is presented.

That's the scary power of inception.
