Dream layers

So, how did they go into each level of the dream? The dream machine was only real on the plane, yet appears again in each level, to move them onto the next.

I wondered this too. Unless they design a sleep machine inside each dream layer.

the whole dream layers thing seems stupid looking back.
who goes to sleep in their dreams?

..or was that what this machine weas for ? i forget.
do they have to dream a machine present?

reply

Actually, that's not the worst problem. I have had a dream where I dreamed that I woke up and did something and then went back to bed - subsequently dreaming another awakening... It was, or turned into a nightmare - just like in many horror films.
But the dreams in Inception just didn't seem like any real dreams I have had or heard of from anyone. Dreams seem like they have too much focus, are too subjective and personal and too full of things that just make no sense to the waking mind. They aren't like these garishly hyper-real dream realities we see in the film. This is The Matrix, not a vision of human dreams.

reply

I think they put a dream machine on each layer so they could go deeper.

reply

Yeap. They do the same with other technological devices. If they can have guns, and mobiles and hacking tools in the dream, why is it a problem to have a dream machine? It's just another device.

The question would be why they limit technology. Why not using scifi force fields to stop the bullets, for example?

(They could argue that it would attract too much unneeded attention or anything like that, it's not a big plot hole, but at least it's a more interesting question)

reply

LOL or they could have just dreamt up some bullet proof vests.

reply

They do the same with other technological devices.
Well that just raises the question
"How do they make sure their dream (or sub dream) contains all the devices on the mission planning sheet?"

reply

Have we just agreed that the whole film is nonsense?

reply

having re-read this thread.... yeah

reply

Lmao. That’s like... Un-ception.
