I was not all that impressed for the most part until the very nice ending. Amber Heard is so beautiful, it kind of didn't matter I wasn't digging it that much. But wow, it comes together at the end.
The reveal did improve the film, but it was still pretty ordinary, and any improvement made was completed negated by that final scene, which I figured they were going to do, but prayed they wouldn't. I wasn't expecting much after seeing the trailer a while ago, and unfortunately it lived up to my low expectations. I really hoped Carpenter's return would be better.
But yes, Amber Heard is absolutely stunning, so I'd happily watch her just sitting in a chair for 90 minutes!

All that ending meant was that Kristen was trying to become her personality again, she kind of just suppressed her other personalities
shareI didn't dislike it because I didn't understand it. I disliked it because it was a hack ending that's been done many, many, times before, and it wasn't just telegraphed, it was flashing-neon-signposted. As soon as she walked in front of that mirror I think I actually groaned an "Oh, don't!" at my TV. And then they did!
I know Carpenter didn't write this one, but I really expect more from him.
My reaction exactly - JC should have just left it as it was, maybe fade out with a 'mysterious' look in Alice's eyes?

shareI had the opposite reaction. The movie seemed to be going well until the twist, which cemented it into mediocrity.
I expected a twist ending, but not an obvious one. So in that sense, it was a surprise... all be it a let down.

I found the movie dull and the ending very predictable. When I first saw the "ghost" and the flashbacks I told my sister that she had a traumatic experience that made her have split personalities. It had a Identity fell to it, not that it was nearly as good.
shareSorry to say this.. I'm a true John Carpenter fan and Love most of his movies. Some of his works such as' The Thing', 'In the Mouth of Madness' and 'Prince of Darkness' are Masterpieces of Horror.
To me, 'The Ward' is pointless, and absolutely unoriginal. The ending was painful to watch... so cliched, and equal to 100 other movies that rely on a fake a surprise ending that is just soooo seen when a movie doesn't have any ideas to end. That 'surprise' is just so ordinay nowadays that becomes distressing.
Go watch John Carpenter's episodes from 'Masters of Horror', those are really good and his true comeback movies.

I thought the ending was kind of a bland jump scare and not a good ending. For all we know the doctor was just another personality.
