How did he burrow through the sand though? That made no sense.

It would have made more sense if the thing puked him out.

They could have had that scene last a bit longer considering that "What happened to Fett inside the Sarlacc?" is like one of the most important SW questions ever asked.

It was still awesome to see it though.

I thought his armor may have protected him but it didn't help the stormtrooper that was nearby.

They're making it pretty clear that the armor was the only reason he survived, that enough gastric juices leaked in to leave scars, and that if he hadn't been armored he'd have died a quick death by burning corrosion.

I am at a loss as to what happened between the flame... yada yada yada... and he's burrowing out of the sand. At first I was thinking he was just trying to irritate it with the flame so it would sneeze or puke him out... that would have made more sense.
