is it just me or the trailer made it seem like he'll die in the early part of the movie and the rest of the movie is just about Sigourney Weaver

I thought him getting shot was either him faking it or he would survive. I was wrong he was actually dead. All things given though, considering I saw carnival of souls two days ago, this is not the worst movie I have seen, even this week.
