Shooting night for day looks terrible

Yes, I know the title but still, the trailer was so distracting because of all that post-production blue scale!
I hate it when films are shot in the day but then colour corrected to 'look' like night. The Fright Night remake did it in virtually every scene and it was really noticeable.
Does this bother anyone else?

Do you mean the teal colour grading ubiquituous in Hollywood?

George Lucas talking about: 'Hey, give it to me, I'll fix it. I'll make 20 more of them'

The main reasons for shooting night scenes during the day are: 1. There are child actors involved. 2.Artistic reasons.

reply

Isn't the main reason that it's just cheaper and easier to shoot lighting-wise?

reply

That would be my educated opinion.

It was more than obvious and absolutely distracting! The DOP should get an early retirement...

I think you mean "day for night".

They were shooting [during the] day [to make it look like] night.

Same as in the phrase "dry for wet", where they shoot dry then later make it look wet.
