Gamora??? *spoiler*

She's conspicuous in her absence. I'm guessing the real-world reason she's not in this has something to do with the Avatar sequels, but what would the MCU explanation be?

*edit*
So I've read that this special was filmed while shooting Guardians Vol 3, using the same crew and same sets, so Gamora's absence has nothing to do with Avatar.

For some reason I was expecting her to appear in the mid credits or post credits. Obviously. The Gamora we know she is not alive and died in Avengers: Infinity War. And the Gamora in Endgame will be saved for GotG Vol. 3... makes sense that way.

reply

I guess this alternate Gamora's presence and her relationship with Quill would have been too complicated to flesh out in a 40-minute special. But her complete absence and having no mention of her is also very weird. Your idea of having her make a short appearance during the credits would have been the perfect solution.

reply

How was her absence conspicuous? Did you not see endgame?

reply

In Endgame 2014 Gamora kills 2014 Nebula to save Present-Day Nebula, establishing a sisterly bond between the two. She also meets Quill for the first time. So 2014 Gamora is very much one of the Guardians of the Galaxy, no? She has no where else to go. Did I miss something?

reply

She took off on her own, and is very different from the Gamora that died. I think the 3rd film may be at least in part based on their attempt to find her, but for the time being it has been established that she wants nothing to do with Starlord or his friends.

reply

Oh okay. I don't remember Gamora going off on her own. I thought she became a member of the Guardians intent on building an amiable sororal relationship with Nebula.

reply

I'm sure they're saving her for Vol 3. I didn't expect her to show up.

reply

They are not going to do a big return moment on a TV special. C'mon. They are saving it for a movie.

reply

But they already did the "big return moment" and it was funny as hell: the whole "You missed the first time. Then you got them both the second time." bit from Endgame. FilmBuff says Gamora went off on her own at the end of Endgame (something I honestly don't remember) and that's the only sensible explanation for her absence from this special.

reply

I don't know what they're doing, but it's going to be as stupid as slapping Ross and Rachel together in the final episode of Friends if she comes back.

reply

I think she gets a one line mention when they are discussing why Peter is sad, because she didn't even occur to me until then.
