Better than most modern movies, but not amazing

X still leaves something to be desired as its campy references to old horror movies come across as distracting and too on the nose.

Yeah, I'll second that.

If I were 13 years old and it was my first horror film I'd have enjoyed it a lot more than I did.

If you were 13, then all the plagiarized scenes would have been fresh

Absolutely, this is the type of movie that leads young folks to classics like Texas chain saw .

And i love it

i didn't think it was campy at all. it has some humor in it, but i never viewed it as an attempt at camp or satire or anything like that.

i played like a sincere sort of love letter to tcm with some other slasher elements thrown in & a bit of a24-style slow-burn. a kind of earnest attempt at recreating a bygone style.

i'm honestly surprised that it's doing as well with audiences as it is. i loved it, but i thought it might get that witch/it comes at night type response in being critically loved/audience reviled.

it doesn't have a cinemascore (not released widely enough maybe?), but it has a solid 78% & 3.9 audience rating on rt. 3.8 on letterboxd. pretty good nujmbers.

I thought it was pretty good. Love the movies that copy the 70s.

It may come across like that but really this movies is close to how something could happen in real life which is what makes it scary unlike other horror.
