he was most annoying when chloe and julianne moore's character were trying to talk and he kept interrupting "mom, whats going on? what are ya'll talking about, i wanna hear, wait, mom, mom!"

dude shut the F up! damn. he was so freaking nosy. wait outside kid! its none of your business.

And then when his parents were having a conversation in the kitchen he wouldn't leave then either. so annoying. when adults are having a intimate conversation-you dont belong there!

The sons character annoyed me all in general... Like his acting annoyed me and just the part he played annoyed the *beep* out of me. Like I didn't see a need for his role and it irratated me how he talked to his mother...

I think the son was part of Catherine's environment. It showed that she was alienated from her family. There was no love in her life.

Was Catherine really trying to test David, or was she looking for love?

Remember, Chloe in her VO said she could tell what a client wanted even if the client didn't tell her. What did Catherine not tell Chloe?

yeah i agree. that was probably the most annoying thing in the movie for me.
i mean, it's justified that he wants to know why the mysterious girl he just had sex with is yelling at his mom about paying her off. i get that. but nonetheless annoying

Yes, I think the son was highly disrespectful of his parents. I agree that he was awful in the way he talked to his mother. For example, she got the tuxedo for him and put a note or something in one pocket to wish him good luck, but he did not say “thank you” even though she obviously expected him to.

He brought his girlfriend to sleep in his own home even though his mother told her specifically that it was not acceptable! At the end, he even had sex with Chloe in his parents’ bed. Really, could it have been any worse?

He appeared to be pretty messed up. We are told he had undergone therapy, and I read that in the original script he was supposed to have run away with his piano teacher earlier. Then at the end, he was attracted by another older woman (Chloe). Mommy complex or something?

Having said that, the parents were also awful characters and so perhaps they did not deserve a better son.

He was certainly unsympathetic. But a lot of teenagers are, they scream and cry and whinge about their upper class first world problems. He was in therapy, he didn't need therapy he needed a slap in the face.

If I had done the things that the son did in this movie, my mom would have slapped the *beep* out of me! she wouldn't have tolerated it.

All of you who have posted here are terrible people who should never have children because you would never show them the love and respect that they, not you, deserve. I found him a symphatetic character, considering how pathetic the family situation was.

He was only trying to lead a normal teenage life and others had to wrap him into their own petty problems. He was used.

Oh, please! So only the bratty kids deserve love and respect? What, no respect for the parents who brought you in this world? Yeah, right. Not everyone WANTS children anyway!

I found the son extremely annoying too, and so angsty! He was incredibly disrespectful! I assume he was only 17 or 18 since he appeared to graduate at the end of the film. At that age, if his parents are not approving of him letting his girlfriend spend the night, she should not be spending the night!

Also when he butted into his parents argument, I found that so ridiculous! He tried to make the entire situation about himself. He was not a sympathetic character at all and just came off as a whining teenager who had to have everything revolve around himself. The mom wasn't even rude or anything to him, yet he treated her like crap and of course seemed to idolize the dad who seemed to be the one neglecting the family.

I'll admit, all parties were messed up in this film, but even before all the craziness happened he was a total brat.

The only thing that really ticked me off in this whole movie was this spoiled brat who doesn't realize how fortunate in life he is. After all the comforts his parents gave to him, he was still treating everyone with a dose of salt as if he has a problem to begin with, ie he is simply spoiled. He is simply annoying and treating his mum with disrespect. No wonder his parents are not having sex, with this kind of *beep* kid, who could ?

The teen son did not even exist in the original French movie, "Nathalie." There were younger children, if memory serves. They added this whole story line and much to the detriment of the overall movie IMO. I also found him very annoying through the entire movie, but, alas, not totally unlike some teen boys I've known in real life.
