The most 'liberal' movie I have seen in a while

1. Blast white people -- check
2. Make the antagonist white -- check
3. Have minority outshine white person -- check
4. Show more respect towards prostitute than conservative white woman -- check.

Is this movie funny? Meh. It has it's moments. Indie humor... it's not laugh out loud funny, it's smug funny.

Cinematography, lighting, score, directing.... meh....

The best actress in the movie is that gorgeous young black girl. I have a feeling she will go far in the industry. Very talented young woman. Jennifer Garner was pretty decent too. Hugh Jackman... meh. That guy who played the sex offender on Curb Your Enthusiasm... meh. The plot, buildup and climax.... meh.

Meh.

4/10

I really like how they made Mrs. Pickler's character to be a lot like Sarah Palin and I am glad that Destiny won twice ! I do not know why she is not on the cover of the movie or any of the posters for this movie !

And what was the prize for winning ?

Nice post. I also liked how they made sure to point out that just because people live in Iowa doesn't mean they're all the same. The adopting couple (Siverstone) being confused why Destiny would want to enter this "hick" event even though it seems like a big deal where they live.

I would say socially (not economically) I easily fall on the liberal side of the fence but this movie made me so annoyed haha! I went into it excited about the cast and that I was going to see something different but it majorly dissapointed in more ways than I care to type up. The thing that offended me most though was just how un-funny the whole thing was! I think this is maybe the 2nd time I've ever watched a movie (and I watch alot of movies, my friends and I go once a week at least) and felt compelled to come onto IMDB and see if I was off base with how terrible I thought it was. Glad to see I'm no the only one. Honestly, if this movie had a different cast it never would've even been a blip on the radar, but bc of the director/producers they were able to get a great cast who carried what little script it had. Oh well, life goes on, I think I'll go watch some Arrested Development to re-set my system haha.

Lawdy lawdy no! Not a minority doing better than a white person! Not commentary about hypocrisy!

Tool.

There was also blatant racist comments from an 11yr old. if a white girl referred to a group of blacks as nig gers there would be an uproar. especially if thats supposed to be the good character. but here the racism is just fine and acceptable.

2/10. Would have been 1/10, but Olivia Wilde is hot.

I was really surprised to find out that so few Jews were involved in this film, as it really displays the contempt powerful bi-coastal Zionists have for conservative middle Americans.

I am a liberal by societal standards and I disliked the movie. Most antagonists are white in most movies because whites are overrepresented in movies. I think you are reading into that a little. I mean most of the cast was white so couldn't that just be chalked up as odds lol! I thought the movie was rather dull. The prostitute thing was almost completely unneccessary to the plot. As was the lesbian scene. It is liked it tried too hard to be edgy or something. I was left quite unsatisfied. I usually love movies about making conservatives look like the cornfed, simple minded, sister fuc*er, egoists they truly are but this doesn't even come close. REally just because the "winner" was black and had heart while the other people were motivated extrinsically this movie counts as liberal? Hmmmm interesting :D Perhaps YOU were putting the social idea of race relations too high on the pedestal in this dipiction? And to be fair that "conservative woman" was a straight idiot that i felt absolutely no connection to. She was rude to her husband and an uptight chick. Who cares really? That was her goal in life? To make a butter sculpture? Aren't there other things she could be working towards as a politicians wife? O wait... she is conservative so only her own cicumstances matter... That's righ I remember.

I thought this was a great social satire that mocked BOTH liberals and conservatives with their hypocrisies.

It's good to make fun of your own kind. Black people make fun of themselves all the time. Check out any Madea or Wayons Bros. movie.

I didn't take anything from a race point of view. It was more about making the obvious conservative look like a complete and total ass.

There is far too much of that being farted out of Hollywood.

Overall I really enjoyed the movie and was touched by it. I just don't get why Hollywood has to crowbar in their political leanings constantly.
