Wednesday is supposed to be sadistic who shows no mercy. She's supposed to be fascinated with death with her passion for misery. Yet they make her care about people who are in danger or who die in front of her. That's not Wednesday Addams. And having her hug Enid people could argue is character development, but Wednesday isn't supposed to change or much less care. Having her be a hero and detective trying to save the school would not be the Wednesday Addams we know from The Addams Family.
Right. Wednesday is one of these iconic characters who don't need any character development. I mean, who is interested in seeing Charlie Brown's character develop?
Wednesday Addams as a comic strip character doesn't need to develop. In fact, she doesn't even need to grow up. She can be like Bart Simpson or Charlie Brown.
Wednesday Addams as part of an ensemble cast in a TV show or movie series doesn't need to develop much either. In a show centred entirely around her, she probably does... a bit. Especially in a modern TV show that doesn't press the reset button at the end of each episode.
That said, I do understand entirely where you're coming from. No-one needs to see Wednesday Addams learning how to hug or discovering emotions. This version of Wednesday is a bit too teen Sherlock for my tastes. I checked out on the show quite quickly. Didn't think it was terrible. Think Ortega is pretty good in the role... but just not my cup of tea.
Yeah I'm really just watching it because of Ortega. And trying to separate it from Wednesday Addams and just treating it like Wednesday if that makes sense. Trust me. TV today doesn't have the courage to go to Addams Family level sadistic. Would be too controversial in this social media craze world where people make a big deal about everything.
Setting it up for the unconventional anti-hero to save the day is a good way to the audience to root for someone they don't identify with though. Just make her do it for her own reasons, not out of attachment or empathy.
Which "The Addams Family"? The cartoons had little character development and no dialog!
The TV series was tame compared to the cartoons. Nobody was evil, it was family comedy. The movie series was closer to the cartoons.
Nothing wrong with this series changing characters. Just watch the old stuff it you are triggered by Wednesday!
Wednesday in Adams Family movie was very one dimensional. Like she hd no personality. Like a robot.
Here she actually felt like a real person. I like that. We dont need to make characters the same in every adaptation. Its boring. Like Superman is so boring every time. Because he cant have feelings and must stay the same. Because - comics. Suprman cant grow.
I like that they gave Wednesday feelings and personality. I didnt care about Christina Ricchi in the movie. Because she had no personality.
