This is a gay teen's idea of 80s rock
Contains almost ZERO historical accuracy. First Hollywood gets it wrong with "Rock Star" and now this travesty.

shareHistorical accuracy wasn't the point. This isn't some sort of documentary.
The problem was that this was a 2-hour karaoke session, with two of the leads who had the TOTALLY wrong vocal range and sound for the songs they were singing.
It would have been like trying to listen to Ozzy sing Gospel music, or Axl Rose doing opera. Completely wrong for their talent. Which made it sound horrible.
I see where the OP is coming from. It's a campy, idolised version of the 1980s rock scene with no absolutely no relevence or purpose. The Stacie Jaxx band could have at least played it's own, original music instead of choosing the most over-played songs from the '80s.
shareI grew up in the 80s and I totally remember everyone breaking out in song. I also remember that Tom Cruise WAS Stacee Jaxx and went around singing with Autotune.
Yep....it was historically accurate.
It's based on a musical for cryin' out loud. It never featured "real" metal music and certainly wasn't suppose to be historically accurate (though I'm not sure what exactly is wrong, per se, as it's not based on actual events).
I like the movie mainly because I love that hair/glam rock (or wuss rock, if you will) but most of the casting was wrong. Julianne Hough has a voice that is better suited to pop or country music. Plus she's way too cutesy to be convincing as anything but a cute girl. Tom Cruise as a rock star was surprising but I think he did ok.
And really, the least of Rock Star's problems was its historical inaccuracies. The story was insipid, most of the acting was crap and Mark Wahlberg is simply annoying.
the op is 100% right. When I think of 80's rock stars I think of guys doing blow. *beep* groupies and trashing hotel rooms. THis is basically a long glee episode.
i told you not to stop the boat. Now lets go. Apocaylpse Now
"Mark Wahlberg" ?
shareIt's a fictional movie featuring some of the most popular glam band metal music of the 80's. Why are you looking for historical accuracy?? I'm watching it now and love it, it's making me totally nostalgic. I remember going to see Poison, Motley Crue, Warrant, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi and more with my friends; this movie takes me back. My only complaint is the mash ups, I'd rather hear each song in it's entirety and as close to the original as possible.
I've decided to drop out of society and wear live animals as hats
Well, since it is a musical, by definition it is a gay guy's idea of something....
Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?
Historical accurasy wasn't the point. It was supposed to be a nostalgic Trip through the 80s.
