Bland. I found it bland.
shareIt was complete fluff, but I enjoyed it because that's what I was expecting. I like most of the songs performed in the movie, and the story was silly but fun. And there were some genuinely funny moments.

We love it!! Love the music, of course and we found it to be very funny :-). Tom Cruise was especially humorous, IMO.
shareI wouldn't blame you,I loved it too. I've seen it multiple times on HBO and I love the 80s rock music that's in it and Sherrie is dropdead gorgeous! This is my favorite musical! Two thumbs up!!

But this one was quite bland.
Some of the song-performances were great but everything in between the songs was quite boring actually. I didn't care for the main characters either, they were as interesting as wall-paper. Both were hot tough:)
All in all, it was O.K but it probably works better on stage. Out of the musicals from 2012 "Les Miserables" was the better one.
I came of age in the 80s, and I find this movie just a fun trip through the hairband/rock and roll culture of that time. It was never intended to be a serious work, it's light hearted fun - along with some great tunes.
Comparing this to Les Miserables is kind of ludicrous. It's more in the genre of Across the Universe - a fun musical for Beatles fans. Just plain old fun entertainment, not intended to provoke serious thought or convey some profound message, just an enjoyable couple of hours rockin out.
I can usually tell when I'm here by other people's reactions.
Yeah, I sort of liked it too. It was fun and I liked the music. The gay seen was a bit awkward however. Just didn't seem to fit.
One note. The version that is playing on HBO is cropped to 1.85:1. The actual aspect ratio is 2.35:1 (Panavision). After about 10 minutes I turned off the HBO version and watched it on iTunes. Looks and sounds much better on there.
