I really don't understand the hate for this movie

I really enjoyed Rock of Ages. I LOVE every one of the songs they covered. It's not exactly original music but its not like listening to some horribly insulting cover band. This movie was a great, fun tribute to classic rock.

Tom Cruise surprised me once again. He did a wonderful job as a bottoming, drugged out rock star. That scene where he and the reporter are seducing each other while singing, "I Want to Know What Love Is" is actually sexier than 50 Shades of Grey as far as I'm concerned.

While I didn't think this was a great movie but I really enjoyed it a lot and loved hearing their renditions of the hair band classics I grew up with, I'm not a huge Tom Cruise fan but he gave a great performance as a drugged out rock star.

Overall I give this movie an 8/10

I enjoyed it tremendously as well! I don't get why this is so underrated either. I can only think of 1 bad Cruise film, The Mummy.

I, in turn, think The Mummy is underrated. I liked it enough to buy it on 4K Blu-Ray. It's nowhere near the greatness of the '99 Mummy but it's a fun action-horror film in its own right and I wish they hadn't given up on the Dark Universe.

I think they could've improved upon it if they tried for a sequel.

I didn't mind the movie and thought Tom Cruise made a great Stacey Jaxx; even if they made his character more of a good guy than in the original musical. After my local theater did it a few years ago I think it's one of those type of stories that is just better live. Or in the theater with a big audience to play off of. It's an experience. There's a LOT of room for improvisation and site gags and things like that. Movies very rarely capture that same kind of wildness of the stage.
