I really don't understand the hate for this movie

I really enjoyed Rock of Ages. I LOVE every one of the songs they covered. It's not exactly original music but its not like listening to some horribly insulting cover band. This movie was a great, fun tribute to classic rock.

Tom Cruise surprised me once again. He did a wonderful job as a bottoming, drugged out rock star. That scene where he and the reporter are seducing each other while singing, "I Want to Know What Love Is" is actually sexier than 50 Shades of Grey as far as I'm concerned.

I agree. Everything here worked and improved each other. I am not comparing it to the musical. Just basing this on the movie only.

I grew up in the 80's. This movie covered so many areas of rock life perfectly. If you can find it, check out a movie called "The decline and fall of the western civilization: part two, the metal years". You can see how close this was to the times.

Also, I can no longer stand Alec Baldwin or Tom Cruise. I never liked Russell Brand. However, their performances here were absolutely brilliant. They channeled their charectors perfectly.

I loved a majority of the music used, since I was a teen back in the 80's, but this movie was just atrocious!!!!!!

They don't like it cause they don't get it.

I agree about the seduction scene! When Stacee looked at her, it was like he had never seen a woman before and she was amazing. This is the movie that made less like Tom Cruise.

I don't get it either. Sure the acting and singing aren't the greatest, but it's a musical! Rock of Ages is pure fun and I love the songs. I even listen to the soundtrack...and Tom Cruise is hysterical as Stacee.

Yea love it as well and great to watch or just listen to in the background. The movie is quite cheesy and there's some less than stellar performances but nothing horrendous to deserve the hate it gets. So while I can see why some might not love it it definitely doens't deserve the hate

What is not to understand!?!?!? Many, like me, HATE and I do mean HATE musicals. I did not know this was a musical going in and I HATED every second that I watched this movie. That doesn't mean it's a bad movie, it just means I did not like it. And a lot of people would agree with me. I like a lot of the songs from the movie, but only when they are performed by the artists who made them hits. Sorry, watching Tom Cruise try to sing does NOT appeal to me no matter what song it may be. In fact I'd probably hate him even more for killing the song in my eyes.

I remember when Sweeny Todd came out starring Johnny Depp. My cousin's step kid and friend had interest in seeing it and so I asked if they wanted to go with me. My cousin (a 45 year old male) wanted to go too...mostly likely for the pop corn than the actual movie, haha. And when the movie started and the first lines were sung, he got all nuts saying he didn't know this was a musical and now he had to sit thru a 2 hour musical! It was kinda funny but had I known he DIDN'T know it was a musical, I would have told him. I just assumed everyone knew; it was a popular Broadway/off-broadway show but then...I'm a theater nerd. ANYWAY....I guess I am trying to day that maybe the advertisements should be a little more up front when a movie is a musical, lol I feel bad for people who aren't aware going in because it's a but of a culture shock and ruins their experience; especially for people who hate musicals in general.

Agreed, I really dig this movie too. I just feel so good after watching, you know?
