How do you get $200m to make your first feature?
A first time director gets a $200m budget? And, big surprise, it bombs.
I imagine some studio exec is updating his resume about now.

Whoever called the shots on this film needs to seriously reconsider his/her career choices. Terrible, terrible, terrible.
Animation is not up to today's standards, Japanese actors are forced to act in English (not unexpected, but ridiculous when you think about), somewhat imaginative plot ruined by overuse of CGI and plain old sillyness. Right director, more artistic liberties and a different lead might have saved this atrocity, but as it is, it's just another generic hollywood piece of *beep*
..but if our precious laws bind you all to inaction then I will no longer stand as your brother.
The reason the movie is a financial money pit as the producers forced the director to add more Keanu as Keanu Reeves wasn't the main character and also wasn't part of the final battle.
But you need the movie to be the normal white guy saves the poor innocent minorities and the normal white guy Asian woman romance.
this was disappointing.
there were a lot of good scenes..
it is harder to make a movie than I know.
Good grief, aren't you people tired of bashing the director? It was the dude's debut feature film! Take it easy. This flick sure wasn't anything extraordinary, but not bad either.
Some directors have been in the business since decades, and are still not capable of making good films.
🐺 Boycott movies that involve real animal violence (& their directors) 🐾
Known for his innovative, cinematic solutions to creative and production puzzles, Carl Rinsch has earned a reputation as an idea man and master storyteller. Over the last decade, he has defined his own esthetic and crafted award-winning work on a number of projects.
Rinsch is currently in post-production on his debut feature, 47 Ronin, an epic 18th Century fantasy chronicling a band of loyal samurais who avenge the death of their master. The film stars Keanu Reeves, derives from actual historical events, and is slated for a Christmas, 2013, release.
Rinsch started directing young. At just 14, he had his first film shown at both the New York and Telluride Film Festivals. While still an undergraduate at Brown University, where he double-majored in English and art, he worked as a photojournalist for Rolling Stone magazine, shooting editorial print work with musicians like Chrissie Hynde, Sheryl Crow, Devo, Sarah McLachlan, and the Violent Femmes.
Since earning the D&AD/Campaign Screen Award for Best New Director and being featured in Saatchi and Saatchi’s New Director’s Showcase at Cannes in 2001, Carl Rinsch has continued to be recognized for his work.
In 2009, Rinsch won a Silver Clio for Audi “Intelligently Combined,” which dramatizes the creation of an A4 through a ballet of cogs and parts falling into place within a transparent Rubik’s-like cube.
In 2010, his European espionage robot epic, “The Gift,” shot for Philips Parallel Lines, won the Grand Prix for Direction at Cannes and the Grand Prix at the Ciclope Advertising Craft Festival.
In 2012, he directed a conspiracy theorist’s nightmare-come-true with Mercedes’ “Escape the Map.” As an alluring woman and her mystery driver break free from a
world-gone-Google-Maps, the Kinsale Awards noted Rinsch’s balance of sharp storytelling and stunning visual effects with Golds for Animation.
In addition to directing commercials and his work on 47 Ronin, Rinsch is currently working on an interactive virtual mobile platform.
