The Evil Dead remakes are missing two things
Ash and comedy.
Simple.
Don't need comedy in horror, in any case there is as much humor in the ED 2013 and EDR as there was in the original 1981 movie.
Ash is overrated. Sorry but he wasn't THE Ash in the first movie, just a generic everyday dude. That doesn't stop people from worshipping that movie. He becomes wisecracking Ash in EDII and AOD. I like the character, and Bruce Campbell, don't get me wrong but an ED movie doesn't need him. Just like Halloween doesn't need Laurie Strode or a Nightmare on Elm Street doesn't need Nancy Thompson. The deadites are the stars of the show, much the way Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger are the stars.
AOD overdid the humor a bit and severely lacks in horror. Can barely even be considered a horror movie to be honest. I'd take what they did with ED 2013 and EDR over AOD any day.
I feel like the Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi cultists are wanting gory comedies instead of horror movies. Just a thought. ED 2013 was a thrilling brutal horror movie and we had people asking for it to be toned down with slapstick humor... no thanks.
This one isn't a remake.
