Robber picking host house on 2nd try???

Sorry, but robber picking the "right" house - after only his second attempt - was way too much of a stretch for me. (Needle in a haystack in the right barn kinda odds.) Even though the movie did have some clever moments, I have to chalk that part up to very sloppy writing.

How are you getting hung up on a detail like this?

Nearly all movies use unusual circumstances to set the plot. We live in a big world with billions of people doing millions of different things every minute of every day. Movies focus in on these (often made up) chance circumstances where you're witnessing some kind of "perfect storm" of events.

I mean, what's the alternative? That every movie is just about ordinary peoples lives?

Bob wakes up in the morning, Bob walks to the bathroom, Bob takes a *beep* Bob takes a shower, Bob gets dressed for work, Bob gets into his car, Bob drives to work, Bob walks into the office, Bob sits at his desk, Bob works for eight hours, Bob drives home.

Is that really what you want from a movie?

I agree. The randomness is fine up until we find out (spoiler)... Warwick is actually a detective working John's case. It would be more believable if Warwick was actually driving around looking for John (unbeknownst to the audience until the end), found him, and took him back to the house disguised as a helpful citizen just like the real plot. It would have even been believable if he was a cop but WASN'T one of the detectives working John's case. I really liked the movie so it wasn't too huge of a deal. But I was left thinking the same thing as the OP. Like come on man, what are the odds?!!
