Lame disco dancing at the end of a movie has been a major issue since the boogie down with Luke, Leia and the Ewoks.

I guess I haven't seen enough animated movies to notice. I also saw Megamind, after I saw Despicable, and I thought "Okay, this has been done already." Apparently its been done a lot. The reason why I don't mind it in this movie is because the Bee Gees never gets old. To me anyway.

Back off! ... Way off!

HA EXACTLY!
I agree with you. It came to this part and I turned to my friend and said "typical, they couldn't leave well enough alone."

I don't really watch these kind of films (don't like the look of 3D animated ((or whatever it is)) characters) but even seeing ads like Happy Feet with the penguin rapping The Message is enough to make me throw my chips!

Either ways if the kids enjoy it, I spose that's the main thing - but it really pisses me off. This movie wasn't that bad, at least it wasn't a crap song and dance combo.

...the guy in the $600 banana suit - COME ON!

Completely agree. The ending with the minions playing with 3D would have been fine on it's own and was different and creative. One of the things I appreciated about "Up" was that it didn't end with a snazzy dance number.

Signatures annoy me.

i wasnt crazy about the disco ending either, although i thought it was well done and worked just based on character notes alone. somehow i seemed to have missed all those other disco endings to movies so i didnt feel all cringish about this. i wonder if perhaps it was actor driven rather than writer driven? i might have been happier with a different ending but it didnt ruin the movie for me. up ending with some sort of dance number would have been truly horrible tho.

reply

Ok, although I agree with you about Up! I have to admit, the idea made me giggle... I can just see the Dobies with the cones of shame on doing a line dance....

I thought that the disco moment was rather cute

PIXAR would have ended it with a fade out of Gru smiling as he watched the ballet.

These guys went for cheap laughs.

This is the difference between PIXAR (at their best) and the rest.

The fact of the movie ending with a dancing party isn't very bad, but Gru dancing like that was out of character, IMHO.

Meh, at least it was actual disco this time, and not so-called contemporary pop or whatever.
