See The Original
Save your money.
nothing against Chris Rock but this is pointless.
I agree. The original was great, this one seems idiotic.
sharenothing will beat the original lol, still gonna see this one anyways.
shareThe original was hysterical, I can't see the need to remake it. The cast was stellar in the original
And if they were going to remake it, why not wait 20 years.
Disappointed in the people that thought a remake was a good idea.
Yes, the original was great. As I was just watching the trailer on TV the whole time I was thinking "plagiarism!" until they flashed the title... Then I was more like "You've got to be f--king kidding me!" I thought maybe I had fallen into the hot tub time machine and gone 20 years into the future. But then I checked and sure enough it was still 2010 and the wonderful original was made a mere three years ago. Hell, the DVD just came off the new release shelf at Blockbuster last year. I should say that I've no issue at all with the race of the cast. That's a moot point. It's the director that should get a big fat "LOSER" branded into his forehead.
shareYeah. This is probably the most pointless remake ever.
shareI just saw the commercial and I'm sitting their like... 'wait...wait...WAIT...I've seen this already!'
umm i'm horrified... this is an almost exact replica of the original except with a bunch of stupid black humour...
how embarrassing... America... leave the UK films be... or say no to this type of stereotypical American black cinema comedy rubbish.
(yes...i'm black...and a Brit...living in America...b4 anyone gets offended)
Agreed. This is a complete American fail. I hate seeing American remakes of British film. I'm afraid that it's the humor of the Brits that made America go "Wuh?" And therefore feel a need to Americanize it.
I'm taking the advice. Maybe I'll watch it once it's already been forgotten.
Okay, I'm American and I thought the original was great. I can't say what nationality the people are that voted for this but it's (the original that is) sitting at 7.3 and that's a good score on imdb. So, assuming that Americans helped create that score, the people that were willing to give it a shot liked it.
It's just that the old we-don't-have-an-original-thought leg of Hollow-Wood decided to repackage it for the sheep. While I sympathize with your sentiment realize that there are some Americans that will watch original British films and films with subtitles and indie-films and old black and white films and films that aren't pumped into our main frame via 20 million dollar prime time television marketing campaigns full of faces we've already seen a million and one times.
US users 6,519 7.4
Non-US users 18,105 7.3
You can see the demographic of the voting of the original. As you can see 1/4th of the votes came for US users and .1 higher than non-US users to boot.
I will see the new one based on the trailer and I enjoyed the original greatly.
I agree w/ you, you make good points.
For me at least...the issue is what they turned it into... It is a bit disheartening that this film was an EXACT replica of the original (a little strange) but i'm over that... It's just that it was turned into a "black folk" comedy... to me it's just strange and inexplicably ... offensive? For lack of better word...
While I think it is silly to remake a movie 3 years after the original, I would like to point out that at least 2 of the main actors in the original are American, and that the entire cast isn't black.
share@pastyglue88
"Stupid black huor?" As if dozens of stupid white comedy films don't come out of Hollywood every month? Until you actually SEE the film (which wasn't even that bad) shut up, you can't have an opinion on it!
I'll rent this one, but I own the original and will always love it, it is a great comedy. I was offended that they remade the movie, and not at all because of the cast, I just think it is ridiculous to remake a really good movie that is only a few years old, it just goes to show how unoriginal Hollywood has gotten.
shareDidn't this just happen, like three years ago...? Why must they make a remake? Can't they wait at least ten years, so then maybe some people will have forgotten it by then...?
I hate Hollywood.
"As a matter of fact, I recommend you stay alive until the f#ckin' clock counts down." ~Art
Not only are they remaking the original (which was fantastic, by the way), but they also are using the same title?? Typical hollywood....I'm getting sooo fed up with them remaking all these movies. It's pitiful. Isn't there one person left in that whole land who can think of an original idea, or have they all been let go due to the "economic downfall"??
shareAgreed. Remake = waste of time.

I saw the trailer for the US one, it looks exactly the same, scene to scene.
Getting the wrong dead body, Danny Glover sh***ing on Tracy Morgan's hand, Naked drugged up guy on the roof, Coffin falling over with the dead body rolling out.. even the same midget is reprising his role in the US version.
it all happened in the UK one.. like OP said, I like Chris Rock, Danny Glover & Tracy Morgan.. but I have a bad feeling about this remake..
Don't watch it, and stop complaining, you're really childish, jeez.
shareOriginal had Tudyk.
'Nuff said.
I don't give 2 *beep* that it had Tudyk, I watched UK's version and didn't like it very much.
shareHey I'm British and I'm not bothered.
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. In any case i would imagine that the american version (which was pretty loyal to the original) only served to open up the humour to a whole new audience.
I'll have to remember that one if J.K. Rowling ever takes me to court when I release 'Harry potter and the return of Voldemort'.
shareOf course, remakes are unnecessary except for one reason....MONEY. And, I'll bet that this American release will make far more money than the English film. And, the humor in this one is more 'low brow', and will appeal to American mall rats. However, it is a very, very funny movie, but that is just my taste(opinion).
Excuse My Dust...
No, I like this version more.
