My review of this series consists of only one word: wow.
Even though it twists the truth a little bit, it is so charming and well made. Matthew Goode ad Robert Evans is the acting turn of the decade. And Miles Teller gives a major performance here.
I just finished ep 10 last week and it is very good. I didn't know they went through so much trouble when making The Godfather. I know it's rather common for producers to run into all kinds of issues when making movies but most of them are not life threatening. This part of it seemed so surreal.
It's some quality TV for sure. And yeah, Matthew Goode was very impressive as Robert Evans but I think the standout performance was Burn Gorman as Charles Bluhdorn. Such an entertaining performance from him. He had some of the best lines though. That helped for sure but overall, very good stuff. They all did good though, but have to disagree with ya about Miles Taylor as Al Ruddy, he was the weakest of the bunch in my view but he wasn't too bad. His performance was good enough.
I'll give The Offer a 7.8 out of 10. I think the current IMDB rating of 8.7 is a little over-the-top but again, this is good stuff. Worth watching if you like The Godfather and that pretty much narrows it down to everyone. haha...
Yes, the Godfather-production was wild. Even though they took a few liberties with the truth (I know since I've read a few books on the subject), they managed to make a really entertaining show out of it. For example, Francis Ford Coppola and Robert Evans was not friends at the end of production. Their relationship was so bad that Coppola put in the Godfather II-contract that Evans could not be involved in any way.
What I liked about Miles Teller's performance what that he carried the whole show - not by giving a showy performance - but by dislaying real movie star charisma. It's the type of performance that a confident actor can give whithout having to out-perform everyone. Also, I was impressed that this kid from Whiplash has become a real actor now, and that he can carry a thing like this.
Btw, I learned recently that Armie Hammer was supposed to play his part. Glad he didn't.
Hammer might have been an interesting choice. It's not so much that I didn't like Teller, I just didn't think he fit the role that well. But opinions vary on things like this.
And yeah, there are several articles on the net that go over the things they got wrong in TO. Unfortunately, it's to be expected when making movies and TV shows based on true stories. Despite this, it was still a good show.
