a complete stupid and silly American rip of Lars Von Trier's Melancholia

I didn't like it. It's a complete stupid and silly American rip of Lars Von Trier's Melancholia. They could have least waited 10 years before they copied the premise from Lars Von Triers instead of waiting only one year. "Filmmakers" have some dignity. Formulaic. Just place it in the United States instead of Denmark, have Steve Carrell play himself and have everyone else act silly, stupid, weird and awkward. Yet, another reason why women should stay out of Film and stick to TV.

Personally this movie kind of reminded me of Shaun of the Dead; guy has trouble with his love life while some kind of apocalypse is threatening humankind...

Protect wildlife.
Save the trees.
Wipe your ass with Owls.

Somehow I doubt these are the only two films ever to have featured an asteroid about to destroy the planet. That is the sole thing the two have in common.

Spare the rod, spoil the child, incite a civil war.

You can't be serious. Have you watches both those movies?

I'm not sure what your biases are (something about women filmmakers and American films, apparently. But "Seeking a Friend" is so unlike "Melancholia" that it is absurd that you would mention the two movies in the same breath. Yes, they are both about an impending end of the world, and how people react to it. There the similarity ends.

Oh, and by your, ahem, "logic", "Melancholia" was a bad film, too, since it was a "copy" of the 1984 movie "Night of the Comet" and the 1998 film "Last Night".

Subtext is often too sub for some.

It may be a ripoff, I can't say it isn't. However, I was truly moved by this movie. I was bored to tears by Melancholia and have yet to finish it. I'll try, maybe tonight.
