a complete stupid and silly American rip of Lars Von Trier's Melancholia

I didn't like it. It's a complete stupid and silly American rip of Lars Von Trier's Melancholia. They could have least waited 10 years before they copied the premise from Lars Von Triers instead of waiting only one year. "Filmmakers" have some dignity. Formulaic. Just place it in the United States instead of Denmark, have Steve Carrell play himself and have everyone else act silly, stupid, weird and awkward. Yet, another reason why women should stay out of Film and stick to TV.

reply

Melancholia is not actually set in Denmark, is it?

reply

Melancholia is a completely different movie. Just because they're end of the workd movies doesn't make them similar.

reply

That's not the similarity I'm referring to, if that were only it, I would have to cross-reference it to about 100 films, at least.

Check your facts. The script for Seeking a Friend for the End of the World was written before Melancholia came out.

reply

Yeah, right. She drafted the first two pages a year before Melancholia and finally figured out the story in production one week after Melancholia was released. Check your b.s.

reply

It's a fact that the script was completed before Melancholia came out. Don't be too quick to call things a ripoff in the future without finding out the facts first. I'm just trying to help you out.

For a long time there were people who believed December 21, 2012 was going to be the end of the world, thanks to Nostradamus. I had been hearing about it for many years. It stands to reason that multiple creative people in the world would be inspired to write end of the world stories and have them come out before December 21, 2012.

reply

thanks to Nostradamus

Nostradamus had nothing to do with it. It was "the Mayans" who predicted it. I put them in quotes because it was obviously a bunch of idiotic nonsense brought on by people with no scientific background whatsoever fueled by the media.

reply

I'm referring to how long before December 21, 2012, people who believed that day would be the end of the world were specifically referencing Nostradamus.

Yeah, whether or not the Mayans actually claimed that day would be the end of the world was under debate.

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is a rip-off of the Canadian film, Last Night.

Last Night and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World are miles apart from Melancholia. Calling Seeking a Friend for the End of the World a rip-off of Melancholia is absolutely absurd and I say this as someone who loved Melancholia.

And if you honestly do think that it's a rip-off of Melancholia, then Melancholia must be a rip-off of Last Night seeing as that pre-dates it by years.

Art is a lie that tells the truth.

according to your asinine logic, we could also say that is Melancholia is a stupid and silly French rip-off of Deep Impact or Armageddon

reply

Mr or Ms. Literal, no we can't say that. Melancholia is a character film not a disaster film. Seeking A Friend For the End of the World tries to be a character film with a comedic twist, but it's just stupid and uninteresting as it tries too hard but only ends up seeking originality.

reply

Melancholia was boring and depressing to hell, even nude kersten dunst couldn't keep me watching, i will give it another try just for the sake of naked kersten dunst, but i'm sure this movie is much better than european pretentious crap.

LOL *beep* that guy, he's the worlds most successful troll

reply

Wow. Sexist much?

reply

Nobody thought of doing an Armageddon story until Melancholia? Amazing, and a totally valid reason for misogynistic trolling.
