Most overrated movie in history?

3,5 hours (!) of old men sitting down talking or shuffling around trying to act way younger than they are, with terrible cgi making them look weird at times instead of younger in any meaningful way and works mostly just as an annoying distraction.

Love Pacino in many movies, but here he just overacts badly and only seem believable as the great guy he portrays in glimpses. De Niro has had a long slow decline in his career, and this is really the bottom of the barrel. Nice to see Pesci again, but he is just waaay to old, and there were no scenes were he didn't look too old - except from in the very end, where he just seems to old again lol

Overall this was just 3,5 loooong painfully boring hours. Just hilarious that this garbage is being hailed as a masterpiece by the mindless sheep out there.

That's what I thought ... had to be like the Sopranos or Godfather. This fictional movie sucked and was pointless.

3+ hours on a good movie is fine. But the Irishman sucked balls. Story was weak, DeNiro was bad, and Pesci was hecka old. I gave it a 4 out of 10 stars

Most in history? I doubt it, there is plenty of competition for that. But overrated? Put it this way; when it came out those reviewers you see on TV were all calling this an instant classic (we tend to keep forgetting these "reviewers" are shills). Anyway, I started to watch this and thought, wait, where does the "classic" bit come it. OP unfortunately is accurate in his post. Yes these actors were great in their time...at least Pacino and Deniro (I always hated Pesci), but watching them pushing 80 pretending with makeup, CG, or whatever to be in their 30s doesn't work for me. Maybe it does for some. Not to mention it's the same generic tired old mobster script they all did thousands of times before. The result is a 3 1/2 hour yawnfest. And yes, I quit after like 1 1/2 hours, but still.

I always hated Pesci

Excuse me but, may I ask why? I respect your opinion, just curious.

reply

It's not that I "hate" him. It's just I find him annoying; just my pet peeve.

Another long, brutal movie about urban thugs plotting and beating the crap out of each other. De Niro has one facial expression. Everybody hams it up to the max. There is actually an audience that never gets tired of this stuff.

I thought it was alright, not something I'd ever watch again though, it's just too long and not good enough.

But to call it the most overrated movie in history, not sure, there's plenty which can fit that title.

reply

Without a doubt an overrated film

reply

Hardly.

Nobody even remembers it.

It won zero Oscars (I think), It spent about 2 weeks in theaters.

And it's budget was so large that the studio had sell the film to Netflix.

And it flopped there.

I do really enjoy the film but I get where you are coming from. I've only watched the film once and I'll be honest, it doesn't have that much of a rewatchablity factor as some of Scorcesses older films and yeah that 3 and a half hour runtime was pretty unnecessary
