A Vast Majority Of Fans Love This Movie

The alleged fanboy outcry that they hate the movie because they changed characters from the books proves that the vocal minority means squat. I popped in to SHH and their main page has a poll that rates the film. Even factoring in the percentage pure DC fans who naturally vote anything Marvel down, these are the current results...

8 out of 10 20.3%
10 out of 10 19.6%
7 out of 10 16.1%
9 out of 10 15.9%

That's over 70% of the fans who think IM3 is a good to great film. SHH is the fanboy capital site. I think all this fake clamor and minority hate gets put in perspective when you see polls like that and, ultimately, the box office numbers. The latter being the only poll that matters.

You can't really tell much after only being released for 3 days. Wait 6 months to a year and then we can have this discussion. A discussion where I bet we talk about how most believe this was the weakest of the 3 films so far.

I think it's clear by the box office numbers and real buzz that most fans enjoyed this movie as is very much. No one that saw it with a crowd can think otherwise. I saw it again tonight and the crowd was in to every turn with lots of laughs and buzz. Anyone saying otherwise is a liar.

Wow that comment is absurd. Transformers 2 made over 800 million dollars and......

And at my theater the air was sucked out of the theater when the twist was revealed.

Most people love Iron Man 3. The exact same group tolerated Transformers. A big difference.

Eh, I wouldn't say "vast majority". Most people I talk to either hated it or felt ridiculously underwhelmed. I think more people liked it than otherwise (it IS an Iron Man movie, and it looked pretty), but I'd say the split is more like 70-30, with the former being the crowd that enjoyed it. 70% isn't really a "vast majority". In fact, Iron Man 3 has been consistently one of the worse-reviewed films Marvel has put out lately (across nearly every movie-reviewing source I've visited). Definitely lower-tier.

It was a very "meh" movie. It wasn't outright horrible, but it didn't feel like an Iron Man movie. It felt like a Shane Black buddy-cop movie that had all of the characters' names scratched out and replaced with Tony, Pepper, Rhodey, Killian and The Mandarin.

This is great news for people with low self esteem!!!!

This doesn't mean it's a good movie. Look at Superman Returns. It got a 67% from fans on Rotten Tomatoes who liked the movie, yet it got axed by Warner Bros because it wasn't a good movie.

X-Men: The Last Stand got 73% from fans and its generally considered a bad movie.

Jon Favreau was the executive producer of both Iron Man 2 and 3. To me those two movies are the two worst movies Marvel Films has made so I hold him responsible.

Truthfully, I'm a DC comics fan. I have lost interest in Marvel comics due in general, but the one thing that Marvel really did well was movies. Now i'm wondering if they even have that. What made Marvel movies great was they were able to strike a balance between pleasing hardcore fans and pleasing casual theater goers. It's what made their movies great.

I agree with alot of what you said. Simply the movie didn't stay true to the source material. People can tolerate reasonable changes like making the Mandarin a middle eastern terrorist, but they simply took the changes too far, so yes that's part of it, but there is more to it then that. Personally I think it was a bad story overall. It was all over the place.

The only thing I disagree with is the idea that this is a children's film. That's a stereotype. Just because It's a superhero movie doesn't mean it's a kids movie.

If you're talking about the movie not getting a sequel, that was due to the box office, not the film's quality...

reply

The box office, what do you mean? You mean how much the movie made? Do have a source to confirm this, i'd rather not take your word for it. Nothing personal, but anyone can say anything on a forum, so I need alittle bit more to go on.

reply

Everyone knows the Superman Returns numbers by now.

Anyway, as for IM3, what's not to love?

Maybe the haters will link that real trailer yet again? They can't go five minutes without trying to plug their wounded anus with that link.

The official number is 96.7% loved this film. Look it up.

No fan base votes over and over more than the Nolan trolls. With that, this movie still flew high.

reply

As if the Nolan tribe matters at this point. They are yesterday's news and they know it.

I finally understood what true love meant...love meant that you care for great films like this one.
