Rewatched this tonight. Still my favourite ED film of all so far

But looking forward to the two new upcoming movies.

Exhilarating horror movie. Easily one of the best of the 2010s.

I'm looking forward to the future movies as well. It seems Raimi is using the I.P. to give young up and coming directors a chance. Cronin (Evil Dead Rise) and these other directors he's turned up are people who are only getting started, I know Cronin got the gig because Raimi liked The Hole in the Ground (2019), which I haven't seen, and one of the upcoming movies will be directed by a French director who recently made a spider horror movie which was well received. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt26744289/

I'm glad Fede Alvarez is back to directing. Evil Dead and Don't Breathe was a nice one-two, it's been 8(!) years since he directed a movie. Fingers crossed Alien: Romulus delivers. I'll never stop bemoaning the fact it was announced he'd be making a Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie only for it to turn out he was only producing. I remember thinking to myself, "a TCM movie from the director of Evil Dead??? Sign me up."

The new TCM movie was such a disappointment.

I think it has the best setup of a horror movie with Mia trying to quite heroin and everyone thinks she's hallucinating but it's the actions of the Book of the Dead

That is a great set-up. Such a change from the 'five friends go to the woods for a fun break' (which almost sounds like something from Enid Blyton's Famous Five books).

It is my favorite too and one of those rare cases where the remake surpasses the original.

reply

I second everything you said.

reply

Definitely.

Holy crap. IIRC I saw it on opening night and liked it well enough, but I'm a huge Raimi/Campbell fanboi, so... Even the TV series outdid my wildest hopes. Buuut since it's been over ten years, I might could do with a rewatch. I do have a thing for Jane Levy (redhead); she's like Emma Stone with a cuteness filter applied, though she's no slouch herself, fwiw...

Oh, and my secret remake over original is Dawn of the Dead, oh and The Crazies, sorry George. That usually draws some love...

[edit] Theatrical or unrated cut? [going with theatrical, but reply in the next 20-ish minutes if you strongly rec. the unrated]
